Dave Mason of Traffic fame has a long, successful career and at the age of 68 shows no sign of stopping as he prepares to set off on a huge US tour with his own supporting band 'traffic jam' playing a selection of his own material and some of Traffic's most notable works from their hay day in the late 60's. The Worcester singer/songwriter is still an incredibly talented musician and seems to still really enjoy performing.
Opening his shows with seven successive traffic songs including big crowd pleasers 'Pearly Queen' and 'You Can All Join In', the crowd lap these up with gratitude as these classics are held dearly by many Traffic fans. The finale of the first half is the brilliant 'Dear Mr. Fantasy' which sees the audience sing along in huge force and Dave & band are visibly pleased onstage.
He returns to showcase his solo material which has been consistent throughout his forty years as a musician, more folk rock sounds breeze by in the form of 'World In Changes' and 'Good 2 U'. This material doesn't seem to engage the crowd quite as much, yet when Mason rolls out his secret weapon, the pop heavy 1977 hit 'We Just Disagree' the audience soon begin to start clapping along again. A member of the Rock & Roll hall of fame who is not too pretentious to remember where his successes come from, Dave Mason is a great performer for fans of both folk/pop/rock and Traffic.
The show was terrific. The opener, Cary Morin, was quite entertaining and talented. Dave came out the non-stop show was filled with hits from a variety of the bands he was in over the years. Sound was clear and the band tight. Well worth the wait (this was rescheduled from a night when Dave was ill and had to postpone. ;-) )
It’s fair to say Traffic is my all time favorite group. Having seen Traffic over a half dozen times with Dave jamming with them once. I love Dave . Have seen him over the years over a half a dozen times even with Mama Cass. Look forward to seeing him if in my area. There is no bad song that Dave plays.
Great show! Dave still can rock and his voice is as strong as ever. Would go see again in a heartbeat. Did a signing afterwards and was super personable. Crowd was really into the sound and his guitar skills were top notch.
Dave collapsed on stage at the beginning of his 3rd song
He's recovering and doing OK
According to his mgt, the concert will be rescheduled.
I'm relieved he's OK and am looking forward to rescheduled event
We missed the entire show at the Midflorida Amphitheater in Tampa due to traffic cluster but others there said he was great! Heartbroken that we missed him! At my age I probably won't get another chance
