Girl power was really defined by The Cheetah Girls, their career starting back in 2003 with their first ever Disney movie. The sound track to the movie went on to sell over 2 million copies. My 10-year-old self was obsessed with The Cheetah Girls and I could probably still sing the words off by heart to the first film, which could be slightly embarrassing to admit now.
What started out as 4 girls in the first film, later became just 3 as Raven-Symoné could no longer participate due to the popularity of her Disney TV show 'That's So Raven'. The girls performed their Cheetah-licious Christmas tour in 2005 with the Jonas Brothers as special guests around the USA. The girls sang and danced their hearts out in front of thousands of ecstatic children, although their acting and dancing was at a bit of a higher standard compared to their signing abilities without auto tune. But that heart warming feeling they gave when performing live was second to none, it was impossible to not enjoy it as a young girl sending all Disney fans a bit giddy back in the day.
The song lyrics teaching us about the importance of friendship and not giving up on your dreams were inspirational and who doesn't love a cheesy performance now and again? It always brought out my inner diva as a young girl.
