Biografía
Following several independent releases in 2008, Dee Dee and the Dum Dum Girls quickly gained the attention of Sub Pop, who signed the act to their label in July 2009. A year later, the band released their debut album, "I Will BE" in March 2010, which garnered widespread critical acclaim. To produce the album, they called in Richard Gottehre to assist, who had worked with many high profile acts, including Blondie, The Ravonettes and The Go-Gos. Dee Dee had managed to create a record that Pitchfork Magazine described as "genuine earworms, both unfailingly hip and often wonderfully associative." The album also featured a guest appearance from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, who played on the song "Your's Alone." After the album's successful release, Dee Dee formed a live touring band, before embarking on several tours in support of the album.
in 2011, their debut album was followed by the EP release, "He Gets Me High," featuring a cover of The Smiths' classic, "There is a Light That Never Goes Out." The production team remained for this record although they were also joined by Sune Rose Wagner of The Ravonettes to lend their expertise.
Along with their second album released in September 2011, "Only In Dreams," the Dum Dum Girls had created significant attention for their act, culminating in an invitation to perform on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Show, playing the song "Bedroom Eyes," gaining the band further exposure.
Pitchfork continued their high praise of the band, naming their 2012 single "Lord Knows" from the "End of Daze" EP to be 'Best New Track,' with the release as a whole being described as 'Best New Music' by the magazine.
The band's name is derived from two separate references. 'Dum Dum' is a homage to an album by 90s alt-rock outfit The Vaselines, wit the name also referring to the Iggy Pop Song "Dum Dum Boys." This resembles the myriad of influences of the band, with the garage rock influences combining with the 90s shoegaze sound, as well as the punk energy of the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees.

This fuzz pop quartet were originally formed in California in 2008. Since then, with a number of line-up changes, the group have cultivated a distinct dreamy indie rock image. Their latest album, ‘Too True’ channels the alt rock sounds associated with Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure. While the Dum Dum Girls can at times legitimately be described as derivative, they produce a more laid back take on the scene they emulate.
The Dum Dum Girls channel a distinct dark retro look. Onstage outfits consist of all black, laddered tights, and front woman, Dee Dee Penny, often sports a see-through top. While their image is clearly important, the group also has live musical substance and variation. Throughout their older songs, including, ‘Bedroom Eyes’, Dee Dee’s sultry voice echoes through guitar reverb and Sandy’s racing drums. Most recently, Dee Dee has channelled greater emotion into the Dum Dum Girls’ gigs. Performing ‘Hold Your Hand’ from 2012 album ‘Only in Dreams’ Dee Dee’s soulful voice communicates complex sadness as she describes her mother’s final moments.
An example of that rare phenomenon – an all-female guitar band – the Dum Dum Girls have made quite a name on the lo fi alt rock scene and are a staple at indie fests like Optimus Alive and Pitchfork.
