Biografía
There is a very compelling argument to be made that Caro Emerald could easily be the Dutch answer to Adele in the near future. When I say that she's a record breaking success in her home country, I mean that she's broken records set by MICHAEL JACKSON.
Seriously, her debut "Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor" spend a grand total of 30 weeks at number one on the Dutch album chart. An album could spend half that time on the charts in general and it would be considered a roaring success by anyone, but she went better than "Thriller", the biggest selling album of all time, by one week.
Needless to say, that's not a fluke. You don't break records set by the king of pop by stumbling accross a song that just so happens to be what everyone in the world wants to hear at that time. No, Caro Emerald is the real deal.
The 33 year old has been studying and performing music for longer than she hasn't, starting her singing lessons at age 12. She experimented with a girl vocal group called Les Elles soon after starting her lessons but her career didn't begin properly until after training as a jazz vocalist at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
In 2007, the demo of a song that she sang on for songwriters David Schreurs and Vince Degiorgio called "Back It Up" went viral. Ironically enough, the song gained radio airplay the world over the same time it was being passed on by record labels for not having enough "chart potential". Whatever the hell that means.
Emerald, Schreurs, Degiorgio and producer Jan van Wieringen failed to sign Emerald based on "Back It Up", so they started their own label to release it. Of course, it spent 12 weeks on the singles chart and peaked at number 12. The follow up "A Night Like This" went straight to number one as well.
Her star is very much alight in her home country but her second album "The Shocking Miss Emerald" went straight to number one in the U.K as well, making her success truly international. She's in her prime, and only going to get better with time. She's achieved great things already but we've still yet to see her at her best, join her for the ride, you will not regret it!

Caro Emerald is a musician who sings in the genres of Dutch Pop and Jazz. She is very popular in the Netherlands, where her album "Deleted Scenes from the Cutting Room Floor" stayed on the Netherlands charts at number one for 30 weeks, breaking the previous record held by Michael Jackson's "Thriller." She won the Dutch Edison award for best female musician in 2010. Her most popular song, "A Night like This", went platinum in Germany and Gold in Italy and Switzerland.
The first time I saw Caro Emerald was at Sziget 2012 and I was immediately stunned by her vocal ability. She played at an outside venue during the day time. Because of this, there was no lights or smoke. Her only props was a banner hanging in the background with her name on it. The band consisted of her singing, a drummer who played light tones, and some jazz instruments, including a saxophone, trumpet, and trumbone.
Hundreds of people showed up to watch her sing at this event. Her music is dancy, but it is better to just listen to her amazing vocal ability, which is what the majority of the audience was doing. The only issue with this concert was that she did not interact with the audience a lot. Overall, it was still a great experience and I would recommend her to anyone who enjoys listening to people with talent.
Dutch singer Caro Emerald has managed to achieve something European pop stars often struggle with, achieving a universal appeal that even breaks the British borders. She is less of a niche taste as fans flock to her crowds in ever increasing numbers to see the charismatic singer take to the stage.
She seems to absolutely adore both performing and her fanbase, addressing them in a manner in which you may take with old friends which is by far an easy task when you are addressing a whole arena backed to the brim with patrons.
Caro is completely ecstatic as they sing back choruses during 'That Man' and 'Tangled Up' in force. She easily demonstrates her own vocal prowess for the powerful, commanding 'That Man' which is far more forceful live than on the recording. The jazz and electro swing vibes are even more present live as the musicians help create those wonderfully retro sounds. The real shining beacon though is Caro's vocal which simply shimmers on 'History Repeating' by Shirley Bassey before she brings the house down with 'A Night Like This'.
Caro Emerald is a true artist, real gem in world of so-called artists. Her live show even exceeded my expectations. Live versions of her songs are better than album ones. She started show not on the stage but singing to the audience from one of the boxes next to stalls. What a fantastic bunch of people are working with her, it's hard to find another band like these where every single member is a pure multi skilled talent. They all switch instruments, doing backing vocals and even dance on stage ! And you can clearly see there is a chemistry between all of them which is most important thing. But obviously full credits goes to Miss Emerald and her magic voice. Caro Emerald and her band are one of the few real artists and musicians left out there and they totally deserve praise and more recognition. She and her band left me hungry for more and I'll make sure that I got my ticket next time when she's back on tour in UK.
I cannot deny the brilliant musicianship and fantastic vocals of Caro Emerald!
The issue I have is that I was not entertained, there was no real show, little stage presence and very little interaction with audience. I also think the audience was very disappointing, so I do have some sympathy.
Caro Emerald’s vocal is so brilliant! I was expecting an amazing, sassy, teasing and well dressed Caro Emerald giving us a real show.
I still love her albums and tracks, but I felt disappointed regards her live show!
Sorry!
Oh wow what a performer. Her show was just staggering. A long set full of Cuban and Argentine rhythms, Mambos and tangos. Just so good. Caro 's voice is like honey, a bit of Billie Holliday coming through and so strong to rise over her fabulous 7 piece band.
She sang all her big hits and lots of new songs from her new album which sounded fantastic.
The Jazz Cafe is a fantastic venue to see this band and we had a fabulous meal into the bargain. Fantastic
A wonderful start to the tour.
Absolutely spectacular!
Not the first time we have seen the wonderful Caro and the magnificent band, but all in different locations, we traveled from Derby to Llandudno and made a long weekend of it.
An excellent intimate small theatre showing off another stunningly fantastic performance.
Everyone left buzzing and on a high, raving about the quality and how much they enjoyed it.
Thank you for a very memorable and enjoyable experience.
Amazing, lively show, as always (I've seen her twice now). Se sung with such ease and strength, and the band played and danced all evening to a very lively show. I love how all band members seem to love playing - some bands will always look bored to be there.
