Biografía
Edward Maya began making music in 2006, working with fellow Romanian artists including Akcent, Blaxy Girls, DJ Sava and Vika Jigulina. His work with Akcent on the album, "True Believers" went on to win at the Balkan Music Awards for 'Best Duet/Group.' His first composition of note appeared in 2006, with the song "Tornerò," which was performed by Mihai Trăistariu in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.
However, it was in 2009 that Maya had found a breakthrough hit, with his single, "Stereo Love." The song was recorded alongside musician Vika Jigulina, becoming an international hit across several countries. The record reached the top spot in five European countries, breaking into the Top Ten of several more. After this success, Maya performed at concerts worldwide, with the song becoming an internet sensation, receiving 200 million views on Youtube.
"This Is My Life" followed in 2010, also charting well in several countries, most notably in France where it peaked at number two. Maya then set up how own imprint, Mayavin Records, in the hope to maintain complete artistic control over his productions. A third single, "Desert Rain," arrived in 2011, followed by world tours. Two full-length albums, "The Stereo Love Show" (2013) and "Angels" (2014) were released on his label, continuing to raise the profile of Maya's music.
Críticas en vivo
I saw Edward Maya, a Romanian musical artist, at FLUXX in San Diego, California, in April, 2012, which was a stop on his "Desert Rain" tour. I'd been a fan of his for a long time, and I was super excited to be able to see him live.
The venue was packed full of fans and Maya, the man with the perpetual sunglasses, did nothing short of mesmerise us all with his melodic voice and harmonic tunes. The first song of the set was "Stereo Love," one of his most popular singles that has been a hit in dance clubs all over the world and topped charts all across Europe and the United Kingdom.
He continued on with "Desert Rain" and "Mono In Love" among other chart-topping hits, and finished with my personal favorite, "Feeling." "Desert Rain" seemed to be the crowd's favorite, and Maya coached us all into a hand-clapping, foot-stomping, singing-along with the band good time. Part of the Desert Rain tour includes a guest performance by Vika Juliana, who harmonizes with Maya beautifully.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. If I have another opportunity to see Edward Maya live, I wouldn't hesitate to go. And if you, too, have the chance to see him, don't miss it.
