The majority of dance music now a days is performed by DJs who use pre-recorded tracks, but the music that Moon Hooch create with their eclectic and experimental instruments is simply incredible. They opened the show by the saxophonist coming on stage alone, and jamming a traffic cone into the end of his instrument, to warp and distort the sound. As well as creating a unique sound, the image that it created was fun, and exciting as it’s something really different than what you’d usually expect in a live show.
Using brass instruments to create dance beats is something that I’ve never considered before, and their show made it incredibly clear that the line between jazz music and dance beats is actually a fine one. They played through the entirety of their brand new album This Is Cave Music, and although the majority of people in the crowd hadn’t even heard the tracks before, they had everyone dancing around, waving their arms in the air.
Between songs, the trio were great at interacting with the audience, creating humorous banter between each other, and picking out people in the crowd to talk to. The show was the perfect fusion between genuine original talent, and a lot of fun, I’ll definitely be seeing them perform again.
I honestly don't know if I can put what I experienced last night into words.
If you haven't seen Moon Hooch you really need to. It was hands down the best gig I've ever been to, the atmosphere was absolutely electric. Everyone was there to dance and no one cared about anything else in the entire world. It was unlike anything I have ever seen or felt before. Their albums don't do the show justice. Any live sessions on youtube or the radio don't do the show justice. It was incredible.
Moon Hooch are THE band to be seen live! We saw them playing in Utrecht, Holland, where not many knew em.. but even if the crowd wasn't the biggest it was sure damn lit!!
They gave birth to the best concert I've ever attended.
One thing though, I hope next time I won't have to move all the way from Italy to see them.. looking forward!!
All the very best to them, and to who goes to their concerts,
FJ
My first time at the warehouse. Not sure if it was the venue, but the sound seemed flat. The band seemed tired. Still awesome, but have enjoyed better moon hooch performances. No #9 played.
