First time seeing The XX, and I was worried about how their sound would work out in a big venue. Thankfully, the worries were unfounded, and a lot of the new material worked quite well with a big set up, seeing as it is moving towards a more 'stadium house' sound. One problem with this new material, both here and on the third album, is that it tends to overpower the vocals, which were never strong to begin with, it was always their heartfelt nature and sparse production that carried the day. This meant that the vocals got lost at times, especially in those parts of the gig that were more about Jamie. Most of the of the classic tracks from the first album came across excellently, but the two updated versions of old songs did not work at all well. For example, 'Basic Space' was done almost a capella, a far worse musical crime than the dancefloor version of 'Shelter', on account of it being the best-instrumented track the band have done to date. Another slight peeve was the overcooked lightshow, the mirrors were cool, but under strong light it made looking anywhere near the stage quite the chore. All-in-all though, quite an enjoyable gig, and I doubt there was a person there that didn't come away smiling.

Floating Points.
Having heard quite late that Floating Points were also on the bill, I was quite excited, having enjoyed the album immensely, and their KEXP session is very impressive stuff too. Sadly, it was as a solo act that they appeared tonight, it was far too big and packed a venue for this sort of ambient electronic coolness, and while good, they/he lost most of the crowd quite quickly. Had the full band been there, they would have given The XX a run for their money!
5.5/10
It would be easy to assume that the celestial and ghostly aura of The xx’s first two records would be lost in translation to the live stage. Well, shame on you and your assumptions! The trinity of Romy’s delicate vocals, Oliver’s spectral guitar and Jamie’s intricate, reverberating beats amounts to a magnetising and all-consuming live show.
It’s the restraint in The xx’s performance that’s so utterly arresting; less is so much more, as audiences hang off every word, every note, and every protruding wub wub wub.
The importance the band places on the live experience is visible in their careful curation of events over the past few years. The ‘Night + Day’ series involved a trio of one day festivals in unique locations in London, Berlin and Lisbon, with line-ups handpicked by the band and indeed headlined by The xx each evening. More recently, an eleven day residency at the Park Avenue Armoury in New York saw the band create a unique, interactive and enclosed performance space for audiences of just forty at a time.
With multiple accolades under their belt, including the Mercury Music Prize in 2010, the only way is up for the London trio. And with a third record in the offing, the tour circuit awaits with bated breath.
The show way great. Sound system was absolutely spectacular but there was one problem. The event organizer should have provided some chairs so that everyone can see they perform clearly. There was this one dude that was freakishly tall standing in front of me, i was so mad because i cant see romy so i have to go somewhere else. Besides that everything was on point. Its a big shame for MITEC and the event organizers. Once i was in the concert i wanted to go to the toilet but thats not the problem. The problem is i have to que right back and i was salty as hell. I already have my ticket torn of so i should just go straight in but noooo, instead i have to que back. Please, seeing the xx perform was one of my bucket list but someone had to make it a problem. I express this to show that we need a better event organizer for the concert that has yet to come. Thank you.
i watched them in Jakarta for their first show in Asia as a part of the I See You tour, and i loved every single moment of it. i have to be honest, the waiting time for them to get on stage was incredibly long, my legs were already sore. Nevertheless, they killed it! i forgot about all the pain, haha! loved the staging, the lighting was so ‘instagrammable’ and pleasing for the eyes. The music was out of the world, I sang along to most of the songs and got shivers on my body cause they were THAT good. Romy and Oliver (Jamie didnt talk) was so kindhearted, they personally apologised for taking too long to get on stage. Their words made me cry (in a happy way of course). I wanted to relive that moment over and over again :)

The xx was such a fun concert for a Monday! They are definitely a more chill band, but have a lot of energy and positivity. All 3 members are talented and all bring something special to the table. I’ve always loved their music, but walked away with a deeper appreciation for what they do. Concert lasted for about 1 ½ hours and came on a little later than I expected, but overall the timing was okay considering I was home and in bed by midnight. 30’s and early work mornings make it hard to do any later. I do recommend going if you can, they sound great live.
The xx is so much more amazing live! Live, their music takes on a whole new life-- a new meaning. Songs that touched me years ago are still relevant, yet in a different way. Honestly, the show was spiritual in a sense. I had never known anything about the members of The xx. For me, it was about the music. However, after hearing them live, I felt the deep passion in all of their music. Even their latest album had essence not found in the radio edits. They seem to be really genuine people-- friends. They are down to Earth and their music will touch you!
Une première partie flottante avec Floating points quelque peu inspiré par Vangelis du moins il me semble. Planant !
Et the XX.
I last saw this band during the Coexist tour at the exact same venue (Merriweather) in 2013. They've grown an incredible amount. Oliver's charisma and stage presence is off the charts, and Romy is so, so lovely and sweet on stage. Jamie practically emits coolness from behind his equipment. The light show was beautiful, and the band seemed to be enjoying themselves so much. The xx, you have been my favorite band for years, and I'm so impressed with your journey. Continue your amazing work <3
I saw The xx at the Skyline Stage in Philadelphia this spring. Me and my friends had an absolutely amazing time! The band has an incredible energy and you can tell they are really passionate about their music. They all seem like such lovely people, and they repeatedly told everyone in the audience how much they love and appreciate our support. If you're a fan of their music, you will not be disappointed. They put on a fantastic show and I would highly recommend seeing them live!
