Críticas en vivo
The lights went down, and from the crowd we could see the silhouette of Chris Graneau make his way to the piano and sit behind it before he played the opening chord of Fireflies as the lights came up and everyone started singing along. They way that he’s revitalised elements of baroque music and employed them into his indie folk sound is incredibly challenging, and shows a great demonstration of his talent. Although many people may not appreciate his vocals as they’re very unconventional, the organic and original sound is incredibly appealing to many.
The use of the cellos as well as drums over the top of his incredible piano playing creates great layers, and makes the sound very rounded and pure. He was great at interacting with the audience between his songs, cracking jokes and playing little improvised sections on his piano, which was awesome, as that’s something that you’ll never experience from a recording. When he played his cover of Elliot Smith’s Between The Bars, he had everyone singing along from start to finish, and from then on he encouraged us all to join in with his songs, which went down really well. Towards the end of the set, he hopped onto his guitar for a few tracks from Winter Games, which further demonstrated his incredible talent, and also gave a great new sound to the set, keeping everyone engaged and excited.
