Sneaker pimps, a band that's experience the traditional rock n roll story: the highs and lows of a musical career, the break-ups and the euphoric feeling of live shows. But a history untold to most of today's music geeks which makes them unsung heroes in my eyes.
Their fame rocketed in 1996 with a killer debut album 'Becoming X' which saw them go from small pubs in hometown Hartlepool to arenas around the UK. They had hits all over their record, 'Spin Spin Sugar' which is a tasty sexy tune, vibrant, and slots in well with the sounds of the 90's. Their fist single 'Tesko Suicide' had a nasty, garage-esk feel to it which obviously woke up the nation. Their highest reaching single in the charts will forever be ' 6 Underground' where singer Kelli Dayton really exceeds in her vocals, but it seems the band peaked here. Difficult second album syndrome must have kicked in because the band took a turn, singer Kelli was told to leave as her vocals didn't suit the direction of the next album. Chris Corner replaced Kelli and Sneaker Pimps, btw what a great name for a band, ventured into a difficult year of reaching the success as their last year. The band has never really seen the success since their debut album 'Becoming X' and their last material was in 2005, but what this band always possessed was a killer live set. Everyone's heads would bop, hips sway and their lyrics were always easy to sing-along to. Its shame they're not around as much because their live shows were always worth seeing.
