Biografía
Formed by vocalist/guitarist Teri Gender Bender and drummer Auryn Jolene, the band impressed early on with their wildly theatrical live show, which saw them dress in 50s-era women’s clothing and utilising props such as feather dusters, aprons covered in fake blood, flour eggs and even a real pig’s head, depicting women as household slaves acting as a protest the patriarchal society. Their outlandish behaviour gained them much attention, going on to receive awards for ‘Best New Artist’ and ‘Best Punk Record’ at the Indie-O Awards in 2009.
Jolene left the band abruptly shortly after, prompting Gender Bender to relocate to Los Angeles, US, where she recruited Gabe Serbian, former drummer of The Locust, as well as Jonathan Hischke a well established bassist who had previously played with Marnie Stern, Aaron Ross and Joan of Arc. The newly formed trio quickly began making inroads in the LA music scene, gaining the respect of fellow musicians that led to Le Bucherettes offered support slots for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Dead Weather on their Mexican tours.
In 2010, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez signed the band to his own production label, producing their first single, “Henry Don’t Got Love” shortly after, which was available as a free download. Their debut full-length came in 2011 titled “Sin, Sin, Sin,” with Rodriguez-Lopez producing and contributing bass to the tracks, with drummer Normandi Heuxdaflo also joining the ranks. Whilst the recording featured a different lineup, the original trio still made up the band’s members, performing together live.
The band relocated permanently to Los Angeles, US, where they began working exclusively with Rodriguez-Lopez, with Gender Bender also becoming involved with the bands Bosnian Rainbows and Kimono Kult alongside him. In 2014, they returned to the studio to record “Cry Is for the Flies,” released on Nadie Sound, which again featured Rodriguez_Lopez on bass and this time drumming duty was undertaken by Lia Braswekl. The band’s second album was released in May 2014.

Garage punk really isn’t usually a genre of music that interests me at all, but after hearing several tracks from le Butcherettes, introduces to me by a friend, I fell in love with Teri Gender Bender’s voice, and Auryn Jolene’s tight drumming. Teri’s message referring to women as slaves is controversial and a common issue in the Mexican culture, but achieved much acclaim in the Mexican scene. As well as her innovative concepts, Teri is also a phenomenal guitatist and bassist, and it was great to hear her play live.
Although when I saw them, Jolene had been replaces Lia Braswell, their sound was powerful and tight as ever. They opened the show with Henry Don’t Got Love, which showcased all of their instrumental talents, as well as Teri’s huge range and unique voice. They played through the entirety of Cry Is For The Flies, their new album. Before seeing the show, I’d only been able to listen through it a handful of times, so I wasn’t incredibly familiar with the tracks, but as soon as I saw the dup performing with their dedication and passion, the melodies and catchy hooks seemed to stick, and I was singing along in no time.
Teri was great at interacting with the audience, and told some jokes and stories between her songs, as well as getting everyone to join in with some elements of the show, singing along. It was a really awesome experience, and even if you don’t think the genre appeals, please give it a chance, you might be surprised just as I was!

A energetic Teri, jumping and dancing , triying to hide her poors guitar skills, a band where all the music weight falls over her mates. There is talent, and energy, but all that ,can not be supported for long, they need a guitar .
This was the 2nd time I have seen them and was not let down terri as a front women was untouchable .so good you have see her to believe it by far the best gig in have been this year.cant wait to see again.
