France seems to be the hotbed for eclectic synthpop groups to formulate. Some of the most interesting electronic artists have come out of France such as Daft Punk, Justice, and Kavinsky, and now the French artist, Anoraak, is taking over the scene.
Anoraak is known for their rich, warm tones that they produce with their analog synthesizers. Their music is presented with an upbeat, pop feel that also contains some jagged dynamics to their performance. Although Anoraak mainly focuses on their synths to carry the catchiness of their tunes, they use their guitars to play jangly guitar riffs and add a more lively sound to their performance. The guitar is played by using quick rhythmic pulses that bounce back and forth off of the other instruments being played. The drums are performed in a mechanical way holding down the overall rhythm of the song. The synths are used both to create deep, pulsating bass lines, and smooth, catchy leads.
Anaoraak’s brand of electronic music is not so much on the ambient, experimental side as it is on the funky side that is presented with a lot of soul. At times their dynamics of jagged guitar progressions and thumping bass lines reminiscences something similar to a Gang of Four song. Anaoraak’s lead singer has a wide range when singing and is able to fluctuate his voice to jump octaves, which creates a captivating presence. Anaoraak’s music is performed with great skill and creates a warm, comfortable environment when presented live. The audience becomes immediately engaged when they hear Anaoraak’s music and will be sure to bust out a few dance moves to their undeniable catchy tunes.
I love the music but i couldn't jam to it because of how every part of the music is too loud at the same time. Its pretty great how anoraak mixes his shit live like a real DJ but he should really take into account the volume of his vocals and the little intricacies of his songs as they were drowned out by the main parts of the song.
Also I'm kind of disappointed he didn't play Evolve ft. Lydmor. Kind of expecting to hear that in his set. Oh well. Had a good dance anyway
