Gary Baker, or better yet, Gary Go is definitely one of those under appreciated artists that deserve much more credit than they are given. The most significant credit that he may be known for is his collaboration with EDM’s Benni Benassi with the hit single “Cinema.” But the guy has got a ton more talent, especially as a performer himself. The opportunity of seeing him live came when I went to a Snow Patrol concert, in which Gary Go was one of the supporting acts. It was after his performance that I realized how ridiculously talented he was, and how much more he deserves in recognition.
The stage was set-up so that his supporting band was slightly behind Gary Go’s keyboards. They opened with “Give Me A Reason,” which was really a perfect song to open with because it builds up so well. After he finished the song he thanked the audience, and as the guitarists were tuning, he introduced the song “So So,” after having thanked everyone for the love. He ended his 30 minute set with his hit “Wonderful,” which is leaps and bounds better than the studio version because of the high energy that you get from a live show. But the best song of the night was his acoustic, slowed down version of “Cinema.” It really showcased his voice, but more importantly it was much more artistic and emotional of a song making it sound wonderfully different from the version he did with Benni Benassi. And that’s saying a lot, because that song is so good to begin with.
