Hocico is a Mexican dark electro band. The band was officially formed in Mexico City, Mexico in 1993 by Erk Aicrag (lyrics & vocals) and Racso Agroyam (programming), but both cousins had been making electronic music since they were fifteen years old. It's an intriguing mix of goth and electro/dance but something within the uniqueness of it or the energetic live show means it just works.
The subject matter is often dark, twisted yet the overall package of tracks is usually more electro than gloomy. The live show is very theatrical, with both members appearing dressed mainly in black and with detailed, gothic face makeup. The duo have a cult following throughout the US and many Spanish speaking countries across Europe, they recently performed a packed out show in Portugal where they showed off classics such as 'Poltergeist' and 'The Watched' to the crowds below who received the music fantastically.
The mixture of Spanish & English tracks adds variation to their shows, it's sure to go down a treat when the band perform at Germany's Dark Storm Festival later on this year promoting their latest release 'Los Dias Caminando En El Fuego' and fans will be hoping for a taste of some new material too.
John Van Roy, aka. Suicide Commando, has been playing with the sounds and science behind electronic music singe the mid 80s, and ever since, he’s been creating original tracks, crossing the boundaries between multiple genres. His fusion of metal, and electro-industrial sounds had given him much acclaim over the years, and Commando is still performing worldwide after nearly 30 years of musical success.
He opened the show with God Is In The Rain, and encouraged everyone to sing and shout along with his lyrics. His interaction with the crowd made the whole show super exciting and high energy, as he’d keep asking us to jump up and down waving our arms, and sing back sections of the music to him.
He played a great selection of tracks from his much older work, right up to his newest releases. His backing pianist and synth players were also super talented musicians, and were grooving along to the tracks feeling the energy of the show. It was a lot of fun, and really demonstrated their talents.
