After catching Gold Casio’s first EP, Fever Dreams, late summer of 2017 I made it my mission to see them live. I caught their first ever Los Angeles gig at the Moroccan Lounge March 2018. They didn’t disappoint. Nearly every song differs from the other, each taking me on a different musical journey. Fresh, feel-good electro-funk infused melodies. There’s a certain innocence and unpretentiousness to the dramatic blend of beats, synth, bass, and vocal cords. They have a new wave pop vibe that’s atmospheric and moody with a disco-driven vibrant energy.
Some favorite tracks are the euphoric “Last Song” and irresistible “Socialites & Singer Types” from Fever Dreams.
Their sophomore EP, Sinners, kicks up the groove and has some really fantastic vocals/chorus mixing. The title track really highlights Ela Ra’s soothing and infectious voice. Ra’s voice ascends on “Lake of Fire”. I love the mixing of Ra’s vocals with Julius Cassian’s lush entrancing deep vocals on “Love vs Logic”. That is what I liked so much about their live show. The band has not one, but two strong singers. They perfectly harmonize and compliment one another. All the while the technical expertise of the beats, bass, and keyboards augment the experience.
The band’s live show generates a pure shock of electricity and gorgeous vocalizing. This is why I’ll be seeing them again at L.A.’s Hi Hat this September 15.
