Groundbreaking in its use of studio technology, tape loops, synthesisers and recorded sound, it expanded ideas of what a popular music album could be and remains one of the defining musical statements of the twentieth century.

This special performance presents the album in a new chamber arrangement by The Swan’s Artistic Director, David Le Page, revealing fresh perspectives on a work whose musical and emotional power remains undiminished. The concert opens with music by Dowland, Purcell, Vaughan Williams, Walton and Britten, tracing a thread through the English musical tradition and providing a fascinating backdrop to one of Britain’s most influential and enduring artistic achievements.
