The Pack A.D. is a very talented band from Vancouver, Canada. They perform mainly garage rock.
The venue for their show that night was a fancy night club in the city. The place was packed with people from all walks of life, ordering drinks and spending time with friends.
When The Pack A.D. took the stage, however, all eyes were on them. The band members came dressed rather simply in graphic t-shirts and blue jeans with studded belts. They had a very down to earth vibe about them and they were very much in command on stage. It was a great thing to see. The audience was eating out of the palm of their hands pretty much. The band loved all of the positive feedback from the crowd and even stayed after the show to sign autographs.
Among the many songs they performed that night were All Damn Day Long", "Hardtack Saloon No. 1", "Paper Bag", "Cobra Matte", and "The Last Martian". I really loved every song that they picked. If I had to choose a favorite, it would be somewhere between "The Last Martian" and "Paper Bag". I enjoyed both of those especially. Very catchy and memorable songs.
Fabulous show. First time seeing this duo, and even though I had high hopes going in (I know all their material, and had seen plenty of live performances on Youtube), I was floored. I wish it had been a longer set, but given their travel schedule, a 45-50 minutes onstage isn't all that out of the ordinary. The only song I was -really- hoping for and didn't get was Positronic, but that's just reason to see them again -- which I'd do in a heartbeat.
Venue was ok -- I like smaller venues for bands like this, and while the sound mix was off at the start (guitar was too low, Maya Miller complained of bass drum feeding back) I'll had it to the sound guy that he tweaked things over a few songs until the mix was finally spot-on, at least for the crowd. Fantastic guitar crunch, and GOOD LORD Miller hits the drums hard. I have to say -- I was expecting to love Becky Black live, but Miller left just as much of an impression. She might be camera shy in their videos, but she's -awesome- live. Plays with raw power, love it.
Bottom line: see them!
The band was simply great. New to them, but very impressed. They don't "rock for women", they just f'n rock. Maya was very warm and light-hearted, but skillfully bangs the crap out of those skins. Becky was more into the music than playing to the crowd, but it suits her perfectly and does nothing to diminish the connection. She has a fascinating voice for the crafted material and her immersion, ferocity, and skill on vocals and guitar makes her a joy to watch. Really a wall of sound, these two. To be able to see such an act, of which there are not many, tearing it up so capably in such a small venue is a rare treat. I do not know if they have reached their full potential but they left no doubt that they can kick the crap out of what they bring to the stage, and it is really, really good. Thank you for being a credit to your craft and owning it. I can think of a lot of huge artists that could learn from the two of you. Very inspirational. Good luck with the rest of your tour, rock on, and hope to see you here again!
The Pack A.D. are one of my current favorite bands. Every album they've put out are all jammed with Maya's drums and Becky's rasby voice. They were amazing live. Every song played were all my favs. You must buy all of their albums, play them all day and I'm sure you'll love them.
The venue itself is pretty cool. It has a dive bar aesthetic with a quaint room for the live music. Love it here.
I love this band. The show was so amazing and soul shaking and good. I don't know how to quantify how fucking amazing it is to see the pack.i danced so hard and the crowd actually danced which is so nice to see in Toronto.
Whoo yes that was intense! The Location VERA was also very cool! Come back to Cologne please! Must-See high energy duo! The new album is also great and I got signatures. Thank you guyzz!
Seen them numerous times, since they toured as support for NoMeansNo in 2010 or so.
These grrls are great performers and good musicians, so I look forward to their next show!
They rock hands down. They play anywhere in so.cal I'm going to that show. If your looking for that sound missing from your life this is who you need to see play live.
The was a great show. Becky was brilliant, and Maya was on the ones and twos, doing stage props and was her own hype woman (along with playing killer drums)
Very powerful show in a cool place! First time I saw this band, and I hope they come in Switzerland soon! Decibelles was a big punch in the face too!
