Biographie
Kano was born in East Ham, London, England and as a teenager went to Langdon Comprehensive School. He showed high competency in sports, playing football for Norwich City; however, he eventually gave it up to pursue a career in music. Kano went on to earn a diploma in graphic design at Langdon Secondary School.
Kano fell into the UK grime scene early on in his career and joined the hip-hop collective, N.A.S.T.Y. (Natural Artistic Sounds Touching You). The group became an underground cult success and quickly became one of the most popular acts featured on the radio station Deja Vu. His recognition with N.A.S.T.Y. led to his record deal with 679 as a solo artist.
Kano’s came out with his first solo track “Boys Love Girls” in 2002 and handed it over to Dizzee Raascal for some final touch ups. His second single “Typical Me” was not released until nearly three years later; however, it proved to be his most successful track to date climbing to No. 22 on the UK Singles chart. “Home Sweet Home”, Kano’s debut studio, album was issued on 27 June 2005.
At the time the 20 year old Kano established himself as one of the most exciting forces to hit the UK Grime scene. The album was critically lauded and debuted at No. 36 on the UK Album charts. This release did not only garner praise from accredited publications like the Independent and the Observer, but was also herald by rap legends such as Nas, Andre 3000, RZA, and Public Enemy’s Chuck D.
Before releasing his sophomore LP, “London Town”, he tided over fans with several singles including “Brown Eyes/ Signs In Life”, “This Is the Girl”, and Fell Free” as well as a mixtape simply entitled “Mixtape”. Though “London Town” was not as critically revered as it’s predecessor it performed exceptionally well on the charts, entering at No. 14 in the UK. This release was also notable for boasting several important guest contributors such as Damon Albarn, Vybz Kartel, Kate Nash, and Leo the Lion.
Kano ended his relationship with 679 Recordings in 2008 and issued his 3rd studio album “140 Grime St” through the label Bigger Picture Music. In 2010 Kano put out his 4th consecutive Top 50 charting album “Method to the Madness”. He also contributed vocals to the Gorillaz’s massively successful album “Plastic Beach” that year.
For his 2011 mixtape “Girls Over Guns”, Kano stepped away from his grime theme tendencies, abandoning the genres’ misogynistic overtones and instead directed his lyrical content in favor of women. A year later Kano released another mixtape “Jack Bauer 2.4” and the EP “Wavy”.

Despite only being 29 years of age, you could call Kano a veteran. Since his first solo hit Boys Love Girls was released in 2002, he has risen up the UK rap scene’s ranks at a supersonic rate – establishing himself as one of our finest urban wordsmiths and the king of a flourishing grime scene. His live shows show us just why he claimed the throne. Be prepared – a Kano gig is always an exciting, energetic affair. As he reels off cult mixtape hits such as Brown Eyes, Hustler and the genre-defining Ps & Qs, the Londoner bounds across the stage with endless vivacity – essentially posing as his own hype man. With so many years of experience in the bag, the grime titan has learned a thing or two when it comes to controlling a crowd and he has one and all echoing every single hook and rhyme like a hooded, ghetto ringleader. Just because he’s a veteran of the game though, Kano (real name Kane Robinson) has never rested on his laurels. His work with indie deity Damon Albarn and Gorillaz is a prime example of this and is now mirrored in his electric live performances. Splicing an alternative twist into his penetrating grime beats, tracks like White Flag and Feel Free, featuring the Blur frontman, have blown Kano’s appeal to a whole new audience. So don’t just expect a run-of-the-mill rap showcase from Kano. No, this is much more. The grime veteran, who once pioneered the grime circuit, is now turning it completely on its head and bending the rules as only he knows how.

Kano is one of those annoying talented artists who can put his mind to many things and be good at it. He was a fantastic footballer at a younger age, representing Chelsea, West Ham United and Norwich City by the young age of thirteen. He broke into the grime scene at a very young age and was nominated for four MOBO awards, going on to win the award for Best Newcomer. The stage tonight is the Oxford Brookes end of year Ball. The room is completely packed out. The venue was once Oxfordshire’s most visited venues with performances from Radiohead, Kings of Leon and even McFly, right now it is Kano’s turn to grace this stage. The response to Kano walking out on stage is a bloody loud one! He launches into “Get Wild”, seeing a couple of thousand people bouncing and singing along with their hands up in the air. Kano is very appreciative of the response, being very chilled out in his performance, which is definitely one to remember.

Best £16.50 I have ever spent, he appreciated the audience and the audience including myself loved every moment of it! He worked the stage like second nature and even spat some old school tunes such as Ps and Qs. Slightly disappointed he didn't bring anyone out at the Cambridge performance as he brought Gigs and Ghetts out at previous venues, but as I said, every moment was sick and I loved it. Hopefully he does another performance of the same quality, possibly headlining a boiler room set, that would be lit... anyway 9/10 from me. This is the first time I have seen Kano live and it was an amazing experience! Made In The Manor is the best British Rap album that has been released in a long time, it's a really personal story and this comes across in the show. Kano interacts well with the audience, we even got a blast to the past with his old stuff and there were people of all ages, new fans and old fans. 10/10 would recommend all fans of UK Rap and Grime to go and see him live and support him

The Ritz is one of my favourite venues to watch a gig and it suited this one down to a tee.
Kano is consistently a brilliant performer and the added bonus of a live band made this a really unique gig within this genre. The mood was brilliant, it felt like one big party, even when the mosh pit was in full flow for 3 Wheel Ups there were good vibes right in the middle.
Going to remember this one for a while.

Unreal yet again! Went to see him in Manchester, loved it so much I got home and immediately bought tickets for the Leeds show and to be honest, I would've bought tickets to see him in Manchester if I was free this weekend and they were still available (doubtful obviously). He knows how to get the crowd going and the choir are all top too. Had a quality night, 10/10 would gig again.

Absouloutley amazing! First rapper ive ever seen and I usually like usa ones but kano is the best!very very humble guy very personal venue at the tramshed he performed amazing and his band were top form!! Will happily pay more than I did to see him again!! 10/10

Such a great performer, the energy throughout the whole set was amazing !! Would recommend anyone goes to one of Kano's shows, you will have the best time !! Personal highlights include t-shirt weather in the manor, p&qs, and drinking in the west end.

A fan from the days of Deja Vu radio sets.
The show was as brilliant beyond my expectations. The venue location, was different but fit the roar energy of Kano's music, origins and fan base.
Will definitely be looking for another show.
