I was lucky enough to see Marc Ribot perform at The Stone in New York, US, back in December 2011, which was one of his few solo performances amidst a tour collaborating with some really big names. As one of the most influential guitarists of the 80s and 90s, this guy packs a serious punch when it comes to improvisation and putting on an amazing show for his entire audience.
The atmosphere in the entire venue felt completely magical. It was like this invisible warm fog had descended as we listened to Marc's guitar renderings, his rhythmic strumming, and the gorgeous Cuban-influenced compositions that flow so easily from his guitar. He's so practiced in his craft that he never misses a note, even when he's improvising a new melody off the top of his head. Marc is intoxicating to listen to, and he took his entire audience to a completely new dimension with his playing at The Stone.
After the concert, I was completely starstruck, and I even managed to get to say hello to Marc as he walked off the stage. He gave me a wave and I felt all those years of accomplishment, practice, and endeavour glowing from his face. I've become a huge fan of his over the last few years ever since that performance, and I'm truly a believer that there has been, is, and will only ever be one true Marc Ribot style.
Wonderful! Fun, intense, emotional, thought provoking! Awesome band, and awesome music! Marc Ribot is an excellent guitar player and he travels across different styles, époques and countries, and loves to make a decent amount of noise also!
