Avant began singing at the age of five and would later attend Cleveland School of Arts to study music. One of Avant’s biggest influences is R. Kelly, which is clearly conveyed through Avant’s smooth delivery of his music. Avant’s rich, soulful music quickly caught the ear of Magic Johnson, who had just started his own record label. Avant was the first artist that Johnson had signed to his label. Johnson’s label was called Magic Johnson Music when he signed a joint venture with MCA and the label would soon release Avant’s first album.
In 2000 Avant released his debut album “My Thoughts”, which was received with critical and commercial success. The album reached the No. 45 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and the No. 8 spot on the R&B charts. The album also contained three top 10 singes, which included “Separated”, “This Time”, and a cover of Rene & Angela’s hit “My First Love”. In 2002 Avant released his second studio album “Ecstasy”, which also received commercial success. The album reached the No. 6 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and the No. 2 spot on the R&B charts. The album also contained the singles “Makin’ Good Love”, “Don’t Say No, Just Say Yes”, and “You Ain’t Right”.
In 2003 Avant released the album “Private Room”, which contained the singles “Read Your Mind”, “Don’t Take Your Love Away”, and “Wanna Be Close”. Like the previous albums “Private Room” also did well on the Billboard charts. The song “Read Your Mind” was remixed for a promo vinyl and contained Snoop Dogg on the track. The song “Seems to Be” featured a guest appearance by R&B singer Olivia, who is also known for contributing to 50 Cent’s song “Candy Shop”.
In 2006 Avant’s album “Director” reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and the No. 4 position on the Billboard 200 chart. The album contained the singles “You Know What”, “4 Minutes”, and “Lie About Us”. The album showed Avant collaborating with artists such as The Pussycat Dolls and Jermaine Dupri. Avant released his sixth studio album “The Letter” in 2010. The album marked Avant’s first release with his new label, Verve Forecast Records. The album contained the singles “Kiss Goodbye”, “Your Body is the Business”, and “Graduated”.
Avant released his album “Face The Music” in 2013, which featured the singles “More” and “You & I”. The single “You & I” featured the R&B singer Keke Wyatt. Apart from releasing his solo material Avant has made several guest appearances on records by notable artists such as The Isley Brothers, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Lloyd Banks, and Diddy.

Avant - that’s his surname, by the way, having been born Myron Avant in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1978 - is an R&B singer who has long claimed that R. Kelly is his biggest single influence; let’s hope, for his sake, he’s referring to Kelly’s impressive musical career in terms of his success rather than the ‘Ignition’ man’s dubious private life. Either way, there’s no question that over the course of his fifteen year career to date, Avant himself has also enjoyed a great deal of success of his own; his debut album, My Thoughts, went platinum in his native U.S., helped on in no small part by lead single ‘Separated’ and the remix of it, the latter version featuring Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child and going on to prove a chart smash on an international level As well as making sporadic film appearances, Avant has continued to make new records, with his latest, Face the Music, just about managing to crack the U.S. top forty when he dropped it last year; he toured his home nation with a full band that same year, proving that his cult fanbase are as keen as ever on his impossibly smooth R&B stylings; he’s been one of the genre’s leading lights for the past decade or so.
Myron Avant, known simply on the circuit by his surname, is a singer, songwriter and performer from Cleveland, Ohio who's career is enjoying a reboot of sorts. After achieving early commercial success, his latest album charted well in the States and has given the musician a renewed confidence as he steps out onto stage.
There are loyal fans here tonight who cheer enthusiastically for every track played yet it is great to see similar reaction for the new stuff lifted from 'Face The Music' as the older hits including 'My First Love'. The artist thanks the crowds for the energy and love whilst explaining that it is mainly for them that he continues to tour around. This of course receives a huge roar of approval before he closes on the biggest track of his career thus far 'Separated' and the smooth 'Read Your Mind'. A great night of R & B proving that sometimes the old stuff really is the best.

Avant was good, but the rest of the line up, except for Troop, wasn't any good. The cause for the children was excellent however. I do appreciate what they are doing for our youth and I'm glad the proceeds are going for a good cause.
OMG! I had an amazing time with this man. He sounded great and looked very handsome. He sounded just like on the radio but better. I cant wait to see him again the only problem was he didn't have enough time to do his thing!
Avant was really enjoyable connected with the crowd and kept you engaged and on our feet the whole time he was on stage. Took you back with some of his old songs. I would definitely go see him again.
