Daryl Braithwaite is a pop legend in Australia, achieving 15 top 40 singles including the no. 1 hits "You're my World" and "The Horses." His 40-year spanning career has seen him release countless hits, cementing his place in pop stardom down under. His music straddles some kind of middle ground between pop power ballads and commercial rock, with Braithwaite also taking to making covers f songs by the likes of Rickie Lee Jones and the Small Faces.
His performance at Oz Rock at Busselton, Western Australia, was full of energy and virility, befitting a man of younger years than Braithwaite, proving he has certainly aged well and is yet to burn out. He was supported by two guitarists, a bassist, keyboards and a drummer, with a classic rock band sound. Most of his songs took to this rock vibe, with overdriven guitars and punchy drumming prompting the audience to dance enthusiastically to the music. He played his hit 'Howzat' which was written by his former band Sherbet. Other Sherbet songs included 'Summer Love' which was suitably powerful with a rumbling groove throughout. His top 40 hit 'Rise' was a real barn-stormer, building gradually in the verse then reaching a climatic sing-along in the chorus. Daryl Braithwaite is still capable of churning out his classic hits when performing live and is well worth checking out if you are a fan.
Being a fan of Daryl for many many years so when he performs in the Newcastle area I try to always see him. Saturday afternoon at Toronto Hotel close to home was awesome. He came on, only played for just over hour which was disappointing especially when he made Horses the encore and stretched the song out and he didn't play any of the new songs from the new album which was also disappointing because i was really looking forward to hearing them live. But I'm sure i will see him again and will still enjoy singing along to his music.
Daryl is always entertaining and I always try and go to all of his concerts.
It was a treat to have James Reyne pop up on stage to sing a song with him as well.
He is a born entertainer and still has the pipes to hit those high notes.
Never get sick of seeing him in concert. I wish he was performing at One Electric Day again, but I look forward to seeing him again at his next concert.
He was a lot better then at the 16 Footer's At Belmont NSW, but I would never pay to see him sing like I did at Belmont, he was good at A DAY ON THE GREEN, Richard Marx was better & John Farnham was excellent just like in 1996, Daryl Braithwaite good this time, a bit of a lucky dip, one day good, one night poor, not good enough for the money.
Daryl never disappoints. His appeal ranges from the oldest to the youngest audiences. His band is fantastic and they all look so happy every time they play. Love when the whole crowd sings The Horses - never get tired of hearing that song.
What a voice Daryl has, it never ceases to move and elate. I try and get to see Daryl's concerts whenever he comes our way. *Never* once have I been disappointed, the shows are *always* full bore fun and happiness.
Love seeing Daryl Braithwaite live but the Ettamogah is a terrible venue for his show.I left after 30 mins. Could not see a thing and the band was drowning out his voice if you were standing up the front.
Always have a good time at Daryl n band concerts.
He is always entertaining and just love his music.
Prefer to see him at smaller venues than up on the big stage as then he is just too far away :)
Daz was amazing - luved his new and old sherbet songs - still has it - would have been good if he came back for encore as the crowd wanted more afterwards.
