Born to an African-American mother and a Dominican father in Manhattan, New York, LaRon James was rapping by the time he was five years old and by the time he was 12, he had signed to Priority Records as a member of the duo Draft Pick. So it’s fair to say that the man who would become Juelz Santana is a prodigy to say the very least, and he would not go unnoticed by his peers for long. In 2000, when Santana was 18, he guested on a track for fellow East Coast rapper Cam’ron’s album “S.D.E”. Killa Cam was so impressed with the teenager that he drafted him into his group The Diplomats very soon after their first recording session together, and the group signed to Jay Z’s Roc-a-Fella records in 2002.
After featuring on a number of Diplomats tracks, along with Cam’ron’s smash hit solo singles “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma”, Santana began work on his debut solo album at the start of 2003. “From Me To U”, his debut record, was released in the summer of that year and was a huge success right off the bat, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard 200. 2005 was even kinder to Santana, as his second solo album “What The Game’s Been Missing!” and its lead single “There It Go” were certified Gold mere months after their release, with the single in particular hurtling into the Billboard Hot 100 at number six. Ever since then, Santana has remained one of the most acclaimed and respected rappers of his generation, with an unparalleled run of mixtapes to his name and the respect of everyone from Lil Wayne to Funkmaster Flex. For that, he comes highly recommended.

LaRon Louis Jame: an American rapper and actor, but better known as Juelz Santana. The native New Yorker grew up in Harlem and found a place in the east coast hip-hop group The Diplomats before moving on to his solo career. Once he dropped his debut album “From Me To You,” he gained a ton of popularity, which only set him up for success for his sophomore album “What The Game’s Been Missing!” When Juelz Santana went on tour for his “What The Game’s Been Missing!” my friend convinced me to go to his show at Universal City in Los Angeles. The venue was pretty small but it lent to a better party vibe, especially since the place was pretty packed. Right off the bat from being announced, Juelz came on stage rapping “Oh Yes;” all the while the crowd got hyped. He performed all his best from “From Me To You” as well as “What The Game’s Been Missing!” including: “Mic Check,” “Hey Ma,” Shottas” and “Oh Boy.” In between songs he’d talk to the crowd, getting them hyped and screaming for him, and during the songs he was everywhere…on stage and in the crowd. Not surprisingly he closed with “There It Go (Whistle Song)” which made the entire crowd go crazy.
LaRon Louis James better known by his stage name Juelz Santana is fast approaching his twentieth anniversary on the live circuit and it appears he is getting to be a stronger performer with every single appearance. The rapper was born and raised in Harlem and was a member of East Coast hip hop group The Diplomats so his sound has been influenced by his upbringing and his past ventures.
Despite not having released a solo album for almost a decade, fans continue to flock to the rapper's performance due to his past credibility and the strength of his previous releases. He oozes confidence onstage and commands the crowd as opposed to instructs with an authoritative tone throughout the show. They respond well to this and increase the volume for the choruses of 'Oh Yes' and first single 'Dipset (Santana's Town)'. Juelz has continued to release mixtapes, and when he performs these with such intent and passion you get a great feeling of the strength of the next album.
