Prior to the formation of ONE OK ROCK, high school students Toru Yamashita and Ryota Kohama were members of the hip-hop dance group, Heads. With the idea of forming a rock band, Yamashita insisted Kohama learn to play bass, and later invited fellow student Alex Onizawa to join on guitar. Drummer and classmate Tomo subsequently joined, however left the group in 2006 to focus on his acting career. His replacement was the music academy teacher Tomoya Kanki, who became an official member in 2007.
Following a series of successful shows around Tokyo, ONE OK ROCK signed with the label Amuse, Inc, who issued the band’s debut single “Naihi Shinsho” in 2007. Rising to No. 48 on the Oricon Singles Chart, the record sold well and paved the way for their second single “Yume Yume” the same year. The singles raised the anticipation for ONE OK ROCK’s debut full-length, “Zeitakubyō”, which arrived November 2007, charting at No. 15 on the Oricon Albums Chart.
Taking their music in a more punk-oriented direction, the group’s sophomore album, “Beam of Light”, was released in May 2008. Seen as a coming-of-age album for ONE OK ROCK, the band very rarely played the album’s tracks live, and vowed to release another record that year. True to their word, in November 2008 ONE OK ROCK issued their third album “Kanjou Effects”, marking a growth in confidence, experience and skill. Following the arrest of guitarist Alex, whom subsequently left the group, Toru assumed lead guitar responsibilities, and the band re-arranged their songs to be played using only one guitar.
Now comprised of Taka, Toru, Ryota, and Tomoya, ONE OK ROCK issued their fourth studio album “Niche Syndrome” in June 2010. Aided by the single Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer” and “Jibun Rock”, the record was their highest charting and selling to date, peaking at No. 4 on the Oricon Albums Chart with over 110,000 copies sold. Maintaining this momentum, the group’s fifth studio album, “Zankyo Reference”, rose to No. 2 in the charts upon its release in October 2011. Following the release the band embarked on a 14-date tour of Japan, before heading out on their debut international tour, which included dates in South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore. Once again rising to No. 2 on the Japanese Albums Chart, ONE OK ROCK’s sixth studio album “JinseixBoku=“ was released in 2013, followed by their first No. 1 album “ 34XXXV” in February 2015.

ONE OK ROCK, the Japanese rock band who sing in English have a considerable following, and seeing them live was incredible, because everyone was singing along to every single song they played. The venue was massive, and before the band came on stage the lights were dark and the feedback came over the monitors before the lights came up and the band ran on stage ready to bring the house down. They introduces themselves and shouted ‘everybody put your hands in the air right now with me’ before launching straight into their track Liar.
The vocalist, Taka, has an incredible range, and at the end of their fisrst track, performed an incredible belt of an extremely high note, which had the audience going crazy. When they played No Scared, everyone was dancing a little tentatively, and Toru, the guitarist and backing vocalist shouted out to everyone in the crowd to join in, and everyone let lose and went crazy.
They played through a selection of their older material back when it was a 5 piece band and mixed it up a little, which was great because it was something fresh not from the album. They then played through JinseixBoku=, which seemed to be what everyone was there for, singing along and giving rapturous applause to every track.
I waited years to see One OK Rock live, I was expecting a lot, and they didn't disappointed me at all. The concert wasn't too long (about 75 minutes) but it had everything I needed. The whole band is powerful, they don't need a huge stage to give a great show. The venue wasn't big, so it was kinda more intimate. They gave their best, they were kinda surprised to see people from the other side of the world singing in a totally different language. Personally, I was shocked at the beginning, but after the second song I started feeling the power. The concert could have been a little bit longer, but it was so good that I don't think that actually matters. Great concert, great band, and absolutely recommendable to see the live, if you didn't and you have the chance to go. What are you waiting for? You won't be disappointed! Loved it!
When I first discovered this band back in 2010, I immediately fell in love with their music. At first I honestly thought that they were an American underground band and I was a bit surprised that they were actually a Japanese rock band. Their sound is so captivating and empowering.
It was definitely a dream come true seeing them live and play a show for the first time in my hometown. They were so great live! It was definitely one of the most memorable concert experiences that I had ever had. Their relentless energy and the way Taka commanded the crowd even with little words is so impressive. Even if I didn't know yet some of their new songs, I still sang along with all my heart with whatever I can manage. I really hope they will come back soon for another show.
To be honest, I went mainly for Waterparks and left before ONE OK ROCK. I was gonna stay the whole time but people were pushing and going crazy so my parents and I left. But my experience was AMAZING!! And can’t I just say that Waterparks was one of the BEST bands I’ve seen live. They were amazing and their performance was so energetic and amazing. I would definitely see Waterparks again. They so amazing. And so was Stand Atlantic. They were AMAZING too. I would definitely see them again. The spots on the floor were perfect too. My parents and J upgraded our tickets to “pass the line” and we got in before general admission and got spots up close and it was amazing. I’d definitely see Stand Atlantic and Waterparks again.
It was my first concert I ever going to.It was such a beautiful experience because I had so much fun because of the great music, the show, the performance and the band has also so much fun.The concert was yesterday and know I have these little "depression after the concert". And thats it what showes very great hat this was so pretty awesome or not? The First song from ONE OK ROCK I ever heared was on a japanese radio-channel. And I was like OMG this band is soo good. Then I heared more songs from then and there was NO song I don't like!Isn't hat kind of creepy. These guys are gorgeous and I'm so Happy hat they came to Berlin.Thank you songkick for noticed me so that I have the Tickets so early, thanks.
The concert was AWESOME! Coming from a fan it may sound biased but I kid you not because it was really hard to forget. Other than the usual rowdy crowd, One Ok Rock kept its fans on their toes with their hands never by their sides! ALL HANDS WERE UP IN THE AIR FOLLOWING THE BEAT OF THE DRUM.
Usually I would regret buying something expensive even if the price is quite reasonable this time. But buying the ticket to the concert was something I didn't actually regret for the first time. I'll continue to support this awesome band and would hope to go to their concert in Yokohama Stadium as my ultimate goal in the future!
HERE IS TO AIMING FOR MY ULTIMATE DREAM!
I've seen One Ok Rock a couple of times before but this was the first full One Ok Rock concert I have ever attended where they were the headliner and it was honestly one of the best concerts I have ever attended in my life. I never miss an opportunity to see them perform! If you are a fan I definitely recommend seeing them at least once. Taka's vocal ability is amazing and he has a strong stage presence. All of the members are very lively and intense when performing and you can tell they are passionate about what they do! They put on an amazing show! If you ever have a chance to see One Ok Rock live you have to go! You will not be disappointed!!!!
It is my first experience for ROCK ZONE, and I chose the STANDARD ROCK for this time. The show was fabulous, the music is great, the lights are awesome, Taka is as cute as hell, it is PERFECT for the show.
BUT, things can make changes for the stadium. The door supposed to open at 6pm for ROCK zone but end up opening at 6.45pm, and it is RAINING outside, talking about timing, and also the show started at 8.20pm instead of 8pm.
There's tons of people taking photos in the ROCK zone, which cause blocking of sights for shorter people.
Please do better for the ROCK zone next time, the band was good as hell though, wish to see them too next year.
I am not good in English, but I'd like to share my review of ONE OK ROCK' live show in Moscow. That was increadibly fantastic! Energetic and powerful show! They made the real rock here in Moscow. One hour of live gitar music, amazing bass sounds, rhythmic drums and Taka's voice, which reached the heart of everybody in the music hall for sure! I have expected something wonderful, and I got so much more. I was so overfilled with emotions so burst into tears. Damn, that was super! That concert made me feel so much alive then ever. Thank you, guys! Please come more and many times to Russia again!
I, personally, think that One Ok Rock are a great band and am super stoked that they decided to join 5 Seconds of Summer in their touring journey across the U.S. The light show, voices, instrument playing, and commentary were a great atmosphere to have fun and dance around in. Their instrumental talents are amazing and so unbelievable, you won't believe that it's all live! They really know how to put on a show; and I am happy to say that One Ok rock has officially gained another American fan! Great job and I hope your success around the world never stops xoxo
