The last thing I want The Hush Sound to do is hush.
What began as random jam sessions between friends Bob Morris (guitar) and Greta Salpeter (piano/guitar) eventually grew into the Chicago indie pop quartet the Hush Sound. A classically trained pianist since age three, Salpeter was introduced to Morris by mutual friends when they were in seventh and tenth grade. From there the rest is history. They have become more and more popular over time. I think the anything but little strike of girl power you get from Greta is enough to make you want to stick around and see more.
Just like any other band they have had their share of ups and downs. The band was separated for nearly five years pursuing their own dreams, but as fate would have it they have found their ways back to each other. The hush sound refuses to keep quite and has turned up the volume on their music.
Don't get me wrong I am now a true listener of The Hush Sound, but I was not at first. I was dragged to their concert by a group of friends who insisted I would love it. I remember standing inside the stuffy crowded room in First Avenue waiting for them to appear. I didn't expect much, I mean yes this band was from Chicago but I had never heard of them so that must have meant something right? I was wrong in the end though. The group took the stage by storm; they made sure we knew this was their time and not to get our opinions twisted. The show started with kind of a mystical mood, the fog lifted and the lights got brighter and there was where they stood, at the foot of the stage. The song "Echo" was what they opened with on this particular night and I was enchanted.
In the end I realized that was what made them so great, "The Hush" the stillness of their always moving music. The sound draws you in but then you are forced to listen ever so closely, hoping the music graces you with its sound.
This show was absolutely INCREDIBLE, as would be expected from such a talented group of musicians. Speaking as a fan of 10 years, I was blown away to hear my favorite band live in such a small, intimate venue with really great acoustics. I only wish this band would be as appreciated and well-known as they deserve to be, with a truly unique sound unlike any other band I have heard. I have nothing but resounding positive reviews for the Hush Sound and everything they produce.
Can't help but sing along and dance whenever I see the Hush Sound! This was the case about 9 years ago when I saw them for the first time and last night on their 10 year anniversary of Like Vines, they were as wonderful as ever!
I've just heard a track by "Hush Sound" for the first time on BBC Radio 6 and I can't get the song name. Please help.
With best respect
