Malvin grew up in Pittsburgh, US, before later attending music school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, US, where he developed his musical talents. Malvin initially trained as a classical percussionist, with this background in percussion resulting in stints as the drummer for a number of bands, Stepdad, Miniature Tigers and Rich Aucoin. Since leaving university, Malvin has embarked on several tours with these bands, travelling across North America. As well as an interest in percussion, Malivin also developed an obsession with synthesisers, with this reflected in his music, creating lush, beautiful, cascading synth-based arrangements underlined by his energetic beats.
Malvin moved to Brooklyn, US, and began creating music in his bedroom, as well as performing DJ sets. His first release came out in 2011, with the EP, “My <3,” a 7-track record full of expansive synths, samples and mood-altering beats that took you on a musical journey to cosmic realms. The record also featured vocalist Steffaloo, on “All There Is,” offering the perfect showcase for her vocals to stand out over shoegaze-like synths. The most notable song off the record was “Marijuana,” with which Chrome Sparks is best associated with.
Chrome Sparks’ live performances have taken many different incarnations over the course of his career, sometimes featuring just Malvin but also incorporating an eight-piece band, or just with two of his close friends. In 2014, Chrome Sparks made a ‘New Years Resolution’ to spend lunch with a different person everyday, which saw him meet with fans and various other people, hoping that his last lunch date would be actor Bill Murray. Chrome Sparks released his second EP, “Sparks” in 2013 and his third, “Goddess,” in 2014, on Future Classic Records.

I've been listening to Chrome Sparks for over two years now and his music has barely left my speakers. "Marijuana" is a euphoric journey through swirling reverberation, slowly building to a blissful drop of the main beat that hits you right when it is needed. "Send the Pain On" is a dreamy, entrancing broiler of a track that cascades all over your aural receptors before gently rolling back from whence it came. Hearing and feeling this live leaves you comatose at the beauty of his anthemic beats. Austin's Hype Hotel was left revelling in the majesty of Chrome Spark's talent last year, enveloping the small venue in his deeply voluptuous oscillations. Track after track was sonically devastating in its beauty, tingling every synapse as of the vibrations had created some kind of synergy between earthly matter and some kind of spiritual existence. He is yet to make a full-length release but this is surely in the pipeline and will be appearing soon. To say this won't be highly anticipated would be like saying Nasa were totally ambivalent whether Neil made that first step on the moon or not. It is sure to be an incredible release. Chrome Sparks is well worth checking out, both in your bedroom and at one of his upcoming gigs which are sure to take you on a sonic journey to alternative interstellar realms.
Chrome Sparks name seems to be appearing far more regularly on blogs and publications clearly in the know regarding the world of dance and electro. 22 year old Jeremy Malvin has been making real waves with a sound that combines both classical sounds from his percussion background with synth heavy dance beats.
The likes of Clean Bandit and Sigma have been creating chart topping music with this combination and Chrome Sparks looks to be the next artist about the set the scene alight. He already has a great following on the underground scene who adore his uplifting and lively beats. His sets feature a selection of musicians and clever production tips to bring all the elements together into something succinct. He clearly is a skilled musician as well as a talented producer and his time studying percussion feeds into the live performance well. Keep an eye on the name Chrome Sparks and Jeremy Marvin as he is a safe tip to blow up.
2nd CS show. Saw him in Feb @ the same venue. Not as packed as last show, but it was a huge turnout considering ACL was happening nearby. Pascaal was on drums.
The music was great. Minor gripe though: I'm not sure how I feel about some passages ending dissonant. Not much of it on the first albums (if at all.) Seems like a new style that takes CS away from poppy tunes, but kinda jarring inserted into prior tracks.
I was shocked at how good of a performance Chrome Sparks put on. I thought he was going to be akin to most DJs and just play the music and manipulate some sounds. That thankfully wasn't the case. He had multiple keyboards and assorted equipment at his disposal plus a live drummer to pretty much remake all of the music. It was a fantastic show and would definitely go see him again.
Chrome Sparks was AMAZING !!! He was working is mercy stand and was super nice when I talked to him . Earlier that week I went to see Neon Indian and the drummer asked me to give him a message . Chrome Sparks thought it was hilarious and the show was beautiful . The lights were moving and flowing . The vibe was peaceful .
So the venue decided to open its doors earlier than said on the ticket )): this meant that I only got to see his closing songs, but holy crap was it fantastic anyway. He had this whole light portal thing going on while they were playing and I thought it was stellar! Now I can't wait for the next time he comes :DD
The absolute best show I've been to in years. The venue was nice, and his lights were out of this world. I can't believe I got to see my favorite artist live! Jeremy please come back to Atlanta soon!
