An intimate venue with great acoustics provided the ideal location for saying goodbye to a much loved band.
The band members were in good humour, the playing tight (most of the time) and the banter between the band themselves and band and crowd light hearted and fun. Stefan opened the set with one of the songs (It's Never The Wrong Time To Sleep) he played his daughter via skype before coming on stage and closed it with the other, a heartfelt cover of 'Fireman Sam'.
In between, a near perfect setlist covering all the band's albums, full of highlights although I personally missed not hearing 'Feathers'. In particular, 'Swimming Lessons' and 'Burning Down Bookstores' were breathtakingly beautiful. Riotous singalongs, gorgeous melodies, the heady mix of folk, rock and pop made for a perfect farewell show.
That this band never gained the recognition they deserved is criminal and that they're calling it a day, deeply sad. Still, there's always Tour Of Tours to look forward to in February.
