While Hudson Taylor officially formed in 2011, the band goes back a lot further than that, since the two men that make the duo up are brothers. Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor grew up in a very musical house as the sons of a musician father and a mother who was a dancer by trade would do. It was only natural that they would pick up guitars and start playing covers of the Beatles and Beach Boys songs that their father would share with them from an early age. Soon after the brothers built up a repertoire of covers, they started busking in the centre of their home city, Dublin, and put some of their first songs up as videos on YouTube.
These videos, combined with the band playing their first proper concerts at around the same time, gave the band a cult following strong enough for them to self-release their debut EP “Battles”. The record was a sleeper hit, topping the Irish iTunes chart and reaching the top 20 of the UK version as well, and lead to the duo signing a major label deal with Polydor in 2012. Ever since then, the brothers have gone from strength to strength, supporting Jake Bugg on one of his first UK headline tours and releasing “Singing For Strangers”, their debut album, in January 2015. Both Harry and Alfie are still in their early 20's, and with their best days ahead of them and the world at their feet, Hudson Taylor come highly recommended.

Hudson Taylor are not Mumford & Sons. They’re two young lads from Dublin who play boppy kind of Irish folk pop. They sound a lot like these London geezers who’ve blitzed the charts with two albums and won ARIAs and Billboard awards and Brit awards and a Grammy. To some, the title tune, Battles, off Hudson Taylor’s recently released EP, Battles II, could be a cheery alternative to Little Lion Man.
They are to Mumford & Sons what Meadow Lea is to butter. Tasty, reliable and 65 per cent less saturated fat (they definitely have less of the cheese).
The two brothers are 20 and 21 and they already turn out one hell of a crowd. The Electric Ballroom in Camden Town was absolutely rammed. All the girls in the front row were gooey eyed and elated while the boyfriends bumped along with convivial respect. If someone were to pawn all the smart phones waving in the air during Chasing Rubies, they could probably purchase an ocean-facing villa in Monaco.
Maybe a support slot for M&S is in the cards. We’ll all have to keep our eyes peeled for these young guns.
For a band that hasn't had too many headline gigs the Irish duo looked right at home. They kept the crowd entertained from the minute they stepped on to the stage until the eagerly anticipated finale of their hit single'battles'
Alfie, Harry and their band showed their immense talent including a very up close and personal off mic completely acoustic version of 'holly'
They could easily command a larger venue and with excellent vocals, melodies and songwriting I'm sure it won't be long before they will be.
Hudson Taylor are as amazing live as they are recorded. I went to see Hudson Taylor in The Savoy Theatre in Cork and had a great night. There was a brilliant atomosphere in the place. The band did not fail to interact with the crowd and made sure everyone had a great night filled with outstanding music. All there music and vocals were on point. It was really a sensational night. Hudson Taylor are a must see band.
An absolutely amazing gig. The atmosphere was unbelievable and the band were incredible, performing with amazing energy and skill, especially the fiddle musician (and Alfie and Harry of course). 'Battles', 'Don't Tell Me', 'You Don't Even Know' and 'Chasing Rubies' were highlights.
Prefect live music!!
Even better then the CD version, definitely go again if I get the chance. They was walking around in the pub as well. super fun.
Old song and new songs both appear.
Love them so much!
the guest singer is great as well!
'Twas a great show. Electricifying atmosphere!! The lads really know how to perform!
There was a nice mix of old and new songs, allowing everyone in the theatre to sing along!
Their style ranged from swinging golk music to adorable duets.
It was one of the coolest concerts in my life. The atmosphere was incredible, everyone was singing.
These 2 kids are absolutely and forever amazing... The couldn't believe their ears that they are so loved in Munich.
