Ma Polaine's Great Decline
With influences in blues, jazz and country Ma Polaine have drawn comparisons with many, with references to Billie Holiday, Tom Waits and a “moody Mary Margaret O’Hara”, yet Ma Polaine’s sound is very much their own. Beth’s distinctive, emotive vocals coupled with her evocative lyrics create a compelling mix of abstract tales, dark humour and raw beauty, whilst Clinton’s understated guitar style supports with rich chords and gritty riffs.
Their June 2020 album “City of Love” received wide-spread acclaim and earned the band “Best band/duo” award from Fatea Magazine, with MOJO magazine saying they “have evolved a pop-folk-blues-americana style that is warmly familiar yet is sufficiently unhinged to keep you guessing”. The songs racked up airplay across the airwaves including 6 Music and Cerys Matthew’s Radio 2 Blues Show.
April Moon
Combining irresistibly charming, boot-stompin’ tunes with intertwined twangy and jangly guitars, powerful vocal harmonies and a kick drum made from an old suitcase, Jaime April and Jason Moon make up the UK-based, Canadian duo APRIL MOON.
Growing up on the wild prairies beside the North Saskatchewan River, the pair learned early that hitting the open road was a necessity to travel the vast distances between venues. They haven’t put down roots since, splitting their time between several countries and cruising from gig to gig in their beloved campervan, affectionately known as The Clubhouse.
APRIL MOON’s fun, whimsical songwriting style fuses genres, weaving effortlessly from alt-country and Americana to folksy blues, rock and pop although their new EP, Forgiveness Juice definitely leans towards the sounds of their more rootsy upbringing. Following up on their self-released full album The Other One Was You, the duo worked in a Liverpool studio with a funding grant to record the new music and gain the support of radio programs such as BBC Introducing and Countryline Homegrown.

What a great end to the week. I am now an avid fan. Beth has such an amazing voice. It is a voice that everyone really needs to hear.
