This classic American folk singer stores hits upon hits and performs them at Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley. With a full live band, Mrs Maria Muldaur graces the stage with wild curly hair and autumnal coloured dress.
The venue is a very intimate and lends itself to a quiet jazz bar in New York City. Originally from the big apple, Maria uses her experiences and fantasies as stimuli for her music. Her self titled first solo album was realised in 1973 and included her hit single ‘Midnight at the Oasis’. Her archive of hits span over 40 years and she makes a great attempt to cover them in a 60 minute set.
Although Maria is from NYC, she has a surprisingly southern draw in her tone, and as a blues singer, her jazz and latin influences are very present. Whilst being totally engrossed in her music, she takes time to interact with her band not only physically but vocally, imitating the electric guitar with her voice – musicianship as its finest.
Maria’s set included ‘Cajun Moon’ and the infamous ‘Midnight at the Oasis’. The singer decided to get involved musically and grabs a tamberine to add to what already is a very tight and soul filled band. This element had the crowd really engaged, dancing and singing our hearts out.
