Sóley is the stage name of Sóley Stefánsdóttir, a singer and songwriter hailing from Hafnarfjörður, Iceland who debuted in 2006., She has released three studio albums and one E.P during her solo career, and also plays in the band Seabear, with whom she has released two studio albums.
After completing a degree in composition at the Icelandic Art Academy, Sóley Stefánsdóttir became a proficient guitarist and pianist, understandably enough, and began looking for a group to ply her wares in. By 2006 she had found the perfect group to compliment her skills in the form of Seabear, who she joined in the same year as one of their multi-instrumentalists and backing singers. The band saw worldwide acclaim for their live performances and their records, but Sóley was far too much her own talent to be confined to the status of sideman. In 2010, she released her debut solo E.P “Theater Island” on the same label she was signed to with Seabear, Morr Music.
“Theater Island”, along with her solo debut album “We Sink” which came out in 2011, were incredibly well received for her composition skill, piano playing and her delicate vocals. Almost immediately she started making a name for herself the world over, with her track “Fight Them Soft” used prominently in an episode of the British drama series Misfits. July 2014 saw the release of “Krómantík” an album built almost entirely around her piano compositions which lead nicely to her 2015 sophomore solo album “Ask The Deep”. She’s a true original in every sense of the word, and because of that, she comes highly recommended.
