Biografia
Originally formed as the solo project for Pasadena-native Steve Plunkett, who had recently left his former band Silver Condor, the frontman subsequently invited lead guitarist Steve Lynch, bassist Randy Rand, keyboard player Steve Isham, and drummer Keni Richards to complete the glam rock lineup. Named after the Def Leppard song “Photograph” with a bit of adjustment, by late 1983 the group had recorded a demo tape, which drummer Richards played for Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth. The Van Halen frontman subsequently invited Autograph to open on their 48-date 1984 tour, doing the band's national exposure the world of good.
The group went on to ink a deal with RCA Records who issued Autograph’s debut album “Sign In Please” in October 1984. Led by the hit single and ultimately Autograph's most well-known song “Turn Up the Radio”, the album has been certified platinum and earned a series of warm reviews upon its release. With the relentless supporting tour complete, Autograph recorded “You Cant Hide From the Beast Inside” for the 1985 horror film “Friday Night”, after which the group issued their sophomore album “That’s the Stuff” in October that year. Not proving as popular as their debut, the album peaked at No. 92 on the Billboard 200 and produced the minor single “Blondes in Black Cars”. The subsequent U.S. tour was in support of legends Mötley Crüe and Heart, following which the group recorded the track “Winning is Everything” for the “Youngblood” soundtrack.
The full-length “Loud and Clear” was released in March 1987, led by the single of the same name. A pair of the album’s songs, “Dance all Night” and “She Never Looked That Good for Me” found their way onto the “Like Father, Like Son” soundtrack, however the album would prove to be the last with all five original members. After leaving MCA in 1988, Isham announced his departure from the group, before Autograph disbanded in late 1989. A reunion occurred in 2013 after which the band played a series of festivals including M3 Rock Festival and Firefest, and subsequently released their new single “You Are Us, We Are You” in January 2015.

For a band that's constantly featured on 80's Hits CD's, Autograph is still rocking. Dressed in black with black guitars, and standing in front of flashy lights, Autograph ends their 10 song set at Altar Bar in Pittsburgh, PA by playing the first riffs to their famous hit song "Turn Up The Radio". The song is almost always included in any VH1 or MTV countdown. It's hard to believe after so long, they sound really good.
Vocals and instruments stay on point as they build up the crowd for the extremely catchy chorus. Autograph first got back together for a reunion in 2013, and are still playing venues in 2014. The original vocalist and bassist team up with a new guitarist and drummer like they never left the spotlight. The older members may show their age but their talents are still evident as they shred through the solo of this famous song. It's like they never even had a 25 year hiatus.
The medium sized bar crowd cheers and begs for more after a fantastic performance. They don't always want to live in the past though, so plans for the future sound include turning down the keyboards to get a little heavier.
Californian glam metal band Autograph have cast aside the large wigs and colourful costumes now thirty years into their career. The fans have not always had an easy ride with the band announcing numerous hiatuses due to inter-group disputes and large scheduling commitments. However now they are back together and performing with the mentality of their golden heyday, enjoying every performance with a large amount of energy and passion.
Led by the prolific Steve Lynch, the group still has a good following on both sides of the Atlantic. Whenever they do stop off on British shores they are met with incredibly warm reception as glam metal had a huge fanbase in the 80s. Years later there is a great sense of nostalgia attached to tracks including 'Send Her to Me' and 'Blondes in Black Cars'. The crowd is completely behind the musicians, cheering along impressive solos from the guitarists and singing to the recognisable chorus of 'Turn Up the Radio'. There is allegedly a new album in the pipeline for 2015 proving there is still life in Autograph yet.
Dynamic, superb concert as always. Great to hear their new tunes from their recent releases. Simon's voice was stellar, Steve's solo guitar performances were captivating, Marc drumming rhythmically engaged, and Randy was bopping around the stage with that captivating smile. The concert flew by. "Turn up the Radio" was the grand finale. My heart sank because I wanted more. Fortunately I will be seeing them perform again on the "Monster's of Rock Cruise" in Feb. Yippy!
I have to honestly say that Autograph was just ok. They HAVE to have a keyboardist!!! Too many of their songs are fairly keyboard heavy. I saw Van Halen a couple of summers ago and when they played Jump for example, Eddie had his guitar sound like a keyboard. Autograph has to do something similar. It really really hurts their sounds. The guys were cool and super crowd friendly. Overall, I can't say I'd see them again, sorry.
Phenomenal! They performed remarkably last night at Maricopa. They were animated, acoustics were balanced, music was stimulating. They are true professionals. Daniels the lead singer was awesome to have mingled with fans before the show. He gladly granted a photograph of us together. I have now fallen in love with the band.
