Biografia
The band have suffered from instability in their lineup throughout their career, with founder Jona Weinhofen (guitar) being the only original member who has remained in the band for its entirety. However, they nonetheless became one of the most well established metalcore bands in Australia, also breaking into an international audience. The band released their first album in 2003, inspired by the epic sound of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall, titled "When Goodbye Means Forever…" Following the release, they embarked on several months touring, alongside the likes of Caliban, Lamb of God, Silverstein, Bleeding Through and Between the Buried and Me."
They followed up their debut release with "Music for the Recently Deceased" in 2006, on Metal Blade Records, with the album being produced by Fredrik Nordström, who had previously worked with Dimmu Borgir, Darkest Hour and At the Gates. The album faired well in the Australian charts and made an impact in the US metalcore scene. With the band struggling to find a consistent lineup and Weinhofen receiving an offer to play for California, US band, Bleeding Through, I Killed the Prom Queen decided to discontinue, embarking on what would become a three year split. Prior to splitting, they conducted a farewell tour in Australia, with support from Bring Me the Horizon, the Red Shore and the Ghost Inside, playing to sell-out crowds on 18 dates.
In May 2011, the band reformed to embark on a national tour, which then led to them finally finding a stable vocalist in ex-Red Shore member, Jamie Hope, with Weinhofen also returning. Fans were given a brief display of their new sound with the 2012 single, "Memento Vivere," helping to build anticipation for their third album.. Two years later, it was released, again recruiting the production talents of Fredrick Nordström for 2014's "Beloved."The album was released on Epitaph Records. The album was greeted with positive critical praise, displaying a strong comeback for the band.

Their name probably gives the game away right from the start - bearing in mind that contemporaries from the genre boast monikers like The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red and Every Time I Die - but in case you hadn’t already figured it out, I Killed the Prom Queen are one of many bands to have jumped aboard the metalcore hype train these past few years. Unlike many of their peers, though, they hail not from the United States but Australia, and the fact that they’ve been going since the turn of the century is proof that they’ve been leading, not following, the crowd insofar as metalcore’s recent popularity. After initially choosing to take a break in 2007, embarking on a farewell tour that gave them the chance to sign off in front of their global cult fanbase for the foreseeable future, they eventually reformed in some style in 2011; first, they toured their home country with Deez Nuts, Of Mice and Men and The Amity Affliction, and then reacquainted themselves with their UK fans as part of a seventeen date European tour that summer. Since, they’ve released a third full-length to some acclaim in the form of Beloved this past February; they’re bringing their incendiary live show to the U.S. extensively this winter, but expect more UK dates to follow before long.
Out of all of the live performances that I've seen, I Killed The Prom Queen had to have given one of, if not the very best. Every member has an undeniable charm that makes you wonder what it would be like if they were vocalists for their own bands. The 2 bands who had performed before IKTPQ that night, just couldn't seem to get a solid crowd reaction. But once IKTPQ stormed the stage to perform their set, the entire crowd came alive with energy and excitement. Jamie is a natural crowd pleaser, he has such a passionate personality to him that you don't even hesitate when he asks for a mosh pit. The energy and the passion given by the crowd was given back to the crowd by the band 10x. It made their set absolutely legendary and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Would highly recommend seeing I Killed The Prom Queen because they are a trendsetting band that is extremely passionate about their fans and will ensure that they have a good time one way or another. Also, if you see one of the members by themselves before the set, don't be afraid to ask them for a photo, they'll more than happily oblige. I know from experience.
