Pomplamoose put on a great show. It's the first time I've really ever seen a line outside of Pub Rock Live in Scottsdale. Typically, the small venue has only 20-40 people in it. This time, however, the place was packed. Their performance was very enjoyable, but then Jack Conte took it to the next level. I should first mention that the entire time he had more energy than I think is humanly possible. We're talking about PowerThirst levels of energy. If I had even half of the amount of energy he had that night in my daily life, I could accomplish whatever I wanted! Hyperbole aside, he was really enjoying himself--more than the rest of us, I think! Then he had us make a huge circle near the end of the show and told us all that he was going to go absolutely bananas in the circle after some musical build up and for us to pretend like it was the most amazing/crazy thing we've ever seen. We complied happily. After this insane display of dance acumen, he brought someone else into the circle. After the brief build up, they BOTH went nuts and the crowd "pretended" like it was amazing. I say we pretended, but in reality, it really was amazing; not a single one of us was pretending. Then those two brought two more people in. This repeated until the circle ceased to exist and the entire audience was going crazy after the build up. It was a really fun show and Jack's energy really took it from a good show to a fantastic one. P.S. Thanks, Jack! :)
Pomplamoose have the kind of musical chemistry that could only come from being a real couple. Multi-instrumentalists Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn cunningly used the internet to kick-start their career. Their music videos are what Jack describes as ‘Videosongs’ acting more like a live performance where everything you hear, you see as well. They have done popular covers of everything from Wham! to Nick Minaj generating over 400,000 Youtube subscribers to date. But with such a unique way of presenting their music, it was thought that Pomplamoose might suffer live. Fortunately with musicians as talented as these two, it’s been no problem at all.
With the assistance of a few talented helpers, Pomplamoose have easily transitioned their unique compositions onto the stage with none of the fun taken out. The songs are playful, yet intricate and lend themselves to audience participation, something which these two have no problem getting from their loyal fanbase. Pomplamoose are a great example of how to move from an internet act to a real life success story and will most undoubtedly continue to be entertaining in both areas for years to come
