Biografia
Evelyn is known for delving into a number of genres with his music and is never afraid to try something completely bizarre. Although starting off with hip hop as their main genre, Evelyn (with the help of former partner Kevin Harper) began to expand their audience with the incorporation of many different elements, from more dance-esque music to the introduction of live musicians to create tunes with a jazz vibe, evident in the 2006 album “In A Space Outta Sound”.
In his extended career of over 20 years, Evelyn has produced 11 albums/LPs, most of which have made an impact in both the UK and the U.S. Earlier releases such as “Smokers Delight” and “Carboot Soul” achieved popularity in Britain, charting at #84 and #71 respectively. However, it was the album “Mind Elevation”, released in September 2002, that saw him reach his highest position in the charts at #47.
Evelyn's music could be categorized into many different genres due to the amount of different instruments and elements each one uses. Although not known for possessing a stereotypical club sound, Evelyn has been performing for many years at Las Dalias, one of Ibiza's most famous nightclubs. During his set “Wax Da Jam” (evolving from his “Wax Da Beach” parties that were held on San Antonio Bay) he promotes his relaxed and feel good vibe to the party goers. Nightmares On Wax said himself that “Everyone turns up as individuals but everybody leaves as one”.
Nightmares on Wax has been associated with some of the biggest names in music, including De La Soul and Roots Manuva, and regularly performs with live musicians whilst on set. His most latest album is entitled “N.O.W Is The Time”, released to commemorate his career (which has now spanned a quarter of a century) and the fact he is the longest serving artist at Warp Records.

Many have always considered the strength of English DJ and producer Nightmares On Max's music to be its real versatility to situation. The musician, real name George Evelyn has been making music since the late 80's and his stirring electronica that merged with genres including hip hop and acid was incredibly popular during the 90s. A self confessed obsessive with several music genres including soul and rap, he really shows good knowledge when performing live as he brings in numerous samples from a variety of decades that should not naturally work but they just do.
The crowds are always up for a party when seeing his show, and the nostalgia factor is present when Evelyn drops early tracks which are received by huge cheers. He looks evidently pleased behind the decks and allows his vocalists to keep the pace as he goes about showcasing his expert mixes. The crowd is well and truly transported back to the 90s basement scene and from the endless dancing, cheering and singing it would appear that they are in no hurry to return.
I have always been a fan of Nightmares on Wax whether it be listening to him while on a drive through the mountains or hanging out with a few friends by the riverside. What I did not expect was the show they would put on! Accompanied by Brother Moses a standout drummer and Rickey Rankin; DJ E.A.S.E. put on a phenomenal show. The group began their set with "Be, I Do" which certainly got the crowd moving. Followed by "Give Thx" brought out the love felt for those who have raised us all. The whole set done by Nightmares on Wax was full of life and resulted in a massive smile upon my face. Thanks for the show!
Worst festival ever. Music was great, but "organisation" was atrocious. Only festival I stayed sober as I couldn't get a drink, completely overwhelmed. Gala, never run a festival again! Likewise food queues were horrendous. I couldn't even get a water, and don't start me in the loos. Dire. Security was lax with the hate being completely left open for anyone to walk in. Not surprisingly no one did, but with terrorist alerts around music festivals Tfthe moment was pretty outrageous.
So epic!!! Best show ever. First NOW show for me. It was, to say the least, a very spiritual experience. Im assuming it was a regular ritual for all of his shows, but as soon as they took the stage, he burns a massive bundle of sage to cleanse the place of spirits, and continued to do so throughout the entire show. Super dope dj and the vocals were SO on point. Definitely worth the 20 bucks i spent to see the REAL THING.
The concert supposed to start at 22:30. However, it start at 00:00. I was so disappointed that i left the concert without listening even a song. I was very upset, because I brought my friend who didn’t know the artist saying that “it is going to be nice concert let’s join me” guess what the artist didn’t come until its too late
It was a good DJset and I had fun.
Having said that, I think SongKick should specify when gigs like this are DJSets and not actual live shows. I was disappointed to see that there were no instruments whatsoever apart from the decks.
Lovely show, the place was not overbooked, there was space to go around, which is a nice thing in Amsterdam. The bad was energetic, communicative and expressive, it create a great environment of connection and enjoyment.
very eclectic sound - mix of electronic, dub step and chill - great live set - Sadie walker has a fabulous voice and look - good addition to the band . The vibe was very welcoming and spiritual.
Really enjoyed show, the sound and venue were great at KOKO, nice atmosphere but highlight for me was meeting NOW (George) at end signing my vinyl purchase of in a space outta sound.. Good man!
