Biografia
The duo of Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott bound together to form the group in 2009 alongside drummer Mike Higgins and keyboard player Jon Visger. With no intention of being anything more than a basement project, the band went with a name suggested to them as a joke however even as the band grew in popularity the name stuck.
Their first releases came out through ‘Quite Scientific’ records and turned them into media darlings, being hailed as one of the most exciting new acts of 2010 by important alternative press outlets like SPIN media and Stereogum as well as outlets from their hometown of Detroit.
With the buzz building, the band signed a deal with Warner Bros Records who released the projects that followed including debut album ‘It’s a Corporate World’ and follow up ‘The Speed Of Things’.
During this time the band has also gained a notable fan – Mr. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. himself. When the band’s popularity grew, the band sent him a message assuring him the name was not meant to cause offense and even sent over a few tunes which Dale enjoyed!
The band mixed things up in 2014 when they released ‘Produce Volume 1’, a stylistic shift up that included collaborations with the likes of Murs and Asher Roth. It was a new approach that further broadened the band’s already mass appeal.

I'm a fan of JR JR and I decided to go see their show after I read a story on their name change and how their live shows are amazing, although I wasn't sure how amazing the show would turn out to be because the members always seem so safe.
We got there early and even then parking is difficult, but the venue was pretty nice inside, the crowd was youngish. Quite a bit of young girls and their parents. The opening act was Hippo Campus, I only know their one song and I do like it, but what struck me was the charisma of the lead singer. That guy ( I still don't know his name) and the entire band look incredibly young, like I was probably creeping- but he was soo hot, charming, and charismatic. He was obviously schmoozing it up for the girls in the audience and his entire vibe was just great, I only knew the one song, but I somehow sang along to them. Plus, they engaged a bit with the audience and that really always amps up the feeling of euphoria, overall great opener.
After Hippo Campus, the band of the hour JR JR took on the stage, and the Joshua was really chatty, loved it, I learned a bit about him and the band like 1. he moved from Detroit to LA and lives in Downtown. 2. Edward Furlong was possibly at the show 3. has dreams wit Kid Rock. I loved their instruments, because sure they had the keyboards and drums, and guitars, but one of their microphones was a phone receiver and I just absolutely love that, the uniqueness. They played song from their new album but also Simple Girl, Run, and an incredible rendition of We Almost Lost Detroit. Both Joshua and Daniel kept the crowd pumping, jumping, singing, it was a full body workout. I sang my heart out, I danced, I jumped in beer for like an hour (because there is always that one person who drops their drink). The crowd was pretty lively, and everyone was feeling IT (except for the one couple to the left of me- stood still for an hour and a half, while everyone else had a moment), there was a vibe a certain happiness that only comes from a shared euphoria. During the entire show, Joshua kept a lively banter with the audience and that really adds to the overall experience, because you can feel that they want you to have a great time. Towards the end of the show they left the stage and came back in in their glow in the dark gear, which looked amazing, they played If You Didn't See Me and it was full on IT. Everyone was singing it and dancing it and feeling it. I gave it my all, they gave it their all, everyone was just in that moment feeling that buzz, Daniel threw out his hair tie and jumped into the audience and it was absolutely a lovely madness. It was amazing, the show, the songs, the band, the crowd- perfect synergy.
It was awesome, just awesome. If you want to have an amazing experience then definitely see the live show.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. The name itself implies something truly unique and different than the normal alternative band. You would not be wrong to believe that. Displaying cartoon soldiers and tanks on a projector in their performance at The El Rey, they show no intention of being your standard alternative band.
As they perform their popular War Zone, the crowd smiles and raises their hands. The vocalists close their eyes and perform the song intensely without hesitation or holding back. As smooth as the music beneath it is, it is clear there is more passion behind it than many other bands out there.
And then quite uniquely to most alternative bands these days, the saxophone comes in. It plays its solo shortly and sweetly before the lyrics of the popular song return, but the passion never leaves in any section of the performance. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. have a unique sound, a unique presentation, and a unique passion. Oh, and a unique name. But that hardly even comes to mind when listening to their flowing tunes that make you want to just curl up under covers with some headphones and keep them all for yourself. But share them we must, and they do an excellent job of projecting that passion into the audience, making for an excellent concert.
Michigan indie pop band JR JR really do not give anything away with their guarded namesake. The five piece have only been active since 2010 yet in five short years they have fast built a reputation on the circuit and the fanbase is expanding all the time. They currently have three EPs and two studio albums in the discography so creating a setlist is no issue for the boys and the crowds seem pleased with choices made for tonight's performance.
With an animated style and unusual visuals, the five musicians begin to create the music from the albums onstage to alarmingly authentic success. With a combination of structured bass lines and unusual guitar riffs, it starts to sound identical to the recorded material. Daniel continuously thanks the audience for being there and emphasises the point that without their support on the live circuit the band would not be able to afford to record. This receives large cheers and as means of gratitude JR JR quickly get to work playing a selection of fan favourites including 'War Zone' and 'A Haunting' to finish tonight's show off suitably well.
It feels inappropriate to dance when somebody's telling you about their divorce, when you're reminded of how bizarre our perception of money and entitlement is, when you feel lonely. I guess that's the genius of Jr. Jr. Feeling so human when you see them live!! I went to see them last night, and I knew I was going to dance, but I didn't know I was gonna shake my ass the whole fucking time. :) their lighting and stage was in itself a masterpiece. Check out Daniel Zott's fancy footwork too.
Phenomenal show! Love the opportunity to see an intimate performance. Band put on a great set and everyone was dancing. The venue was small which is the best and tickets were affordable at $25 a pop.
