I've seen Adrianne twice now. Once at the National in Richmond Virginia with Big Thief and once solo in Knoxville at Big Ears Festival. Two wildly differing experiences but both were incredible concerts. I think what makes Adrianne so great live is 1.) her technical prowess as a musician... she really is an incredible guitar player and her melodies are just insane. 2.)her vulnerability at the helm of her music -- the emotional delivery is just magnetic..you know its real. There is a lot of hyperbole around her as a musician that can be overblown but sit with her music... check her/Big Thief out live online and see for yourself. She can take something so universal and make it seem so specific to the listener. Or make the most mundane observation a grand philosophy. It truly is incredible to see how she uses music to try and quantify the immeasurable.
This was a great show in a nice venue that made any general admission attendees quite happy. The Longboat hall, a subdivision of the Great Hall is always a nice choice for an intimate show. Adrianne played from an acoustic guitar showcasing incredible songwriting, hip, chops, and a sense of humor. This is a five star review. I hope to see her again either solo or with Big Thief.
Absolutely incredible. Played a mix of songs from her solo albums and from her band, Big Thief. Had some trouble keeping her guitar tuned, but she's so charming in between songs. She had a great soliloquy on the power of music and art in a collective space too.
Lenker is a once in a generation kind of artist. She delivered again in Baltimore. Imagine the opportunity to hear dylan before blonde on blonde. If you have not heard her play live, you are missing out on a corner of life. Dont miss your chance.
