Members of the band Adam Tanbouz, Steven Bache, Matt Williams, guitarist McKenzie Bell, and singer Schuyler Croom were high school buddies in the 1990’s. They played gigs under the musical aliases Stronghold, No One Wins, and the Uriah Omen. In the early 2000’s the guys organized their music into an EP and released it in June 2004 under the title “91205.” They settled on the stage name He Is Legend to represent them on the EP. He Is Legend alludes to the 1950’s vampire horror novel “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson.
Soon after the EP was released, He Is Legend departed from indie label Tribunal Records to Christian label Solid State Records and recorded their first full-length album “I Am Hollywood.” The debut album was released on 2 November 2004 and propelled them to fame past the borders of North Carolina. They spent the next two years touring before releasing their sophomore album “Suck Out the Poison” which came out on in the fall of 2006.
He Is Legend has previously toured with Chimaira, Dragonforce, Killswitch Engage, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. The lineup of the band has shuffled around in the past years, but they continue to release music under the label Tragic Hero Records and our heavily on the east coast.
He is Legend are the rather heavy rock band who come from Wilmington, North Carolina. The sound that they make is like that of a freight train, inducing a tidal wave with huge distorted riffs that fill the atmosphere this evening with great force. Front man, Schuylar Croom, knows how to work this crowd. All of them are singing along at the top of their lungs, some giving their best air guitar, others with their fists in the air pumping along to this large sound that He is Legend are making. One of their trademarks becomes apparent a few songs in when they perform a few riffs that are fused with a palm muting technique which is almost close to John Williams’ “Jaws” theme music. It is an aspect that features in every song throughout this set. “Attack of the Dungeon Witch” is one of the songs of this set that everyone is singing along to, or should I say screaming along to, let the circle pits commence.
