I became interested in Alex Ubago when looking for more Spanish-speaking artists to listen to. I heard a version of “Estar Contigo” that he performed with Jorge Villamizar and Lena and I fell in love with the song and his voice. He performs excellent ballads and all of his songs have a great emotion behind them. All of his songs tell a story and many of these will be relatable to the audience. “Estar Contigo” is still my favorite song of his but other highlights from the concert included “Mil Horas” and “A Gritos de Esperanza.” He always seems comfortable and confident on the stage and you can tell he really enjoys his chosen profession. The audience was engaged throughout the performance and he interacted with them well. The songs he performed were all catchy but still musically complex. As someone who speaks Spanish as a second language, I also appreciated his clear pronunciation which enabled me to understand most of the lyrics. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, you’ll be sure to enjoy his wonderful voice and the back-up instrumentals that fit beautifully with it. Alex Ubago is definitely one of my favorite Spanish-speaking singers of all time and his live performances are a real treat for anyone who likes music in Spanish.
