Noise Praise and Cinesthesia are thrilled to be hosting a Halloween special screening of Das Cabinet des Dr Caligari, a 1920 German silent horror film directed by Robert Wiene and considered the quintessential work of German Expressionist cinema.

Plot Summary
At a fair in the village of Hostenwall, the insane hypnotist Dr. Caligari obtains a permit to set up his tent show featuring Cesare the 23 year-old Somnabulist who has slept for 23 years. Francis and his friend Alan visit the popular show and Alan asks Cesare in his trance-like state to predict his future. Cesare envisions that he will die that night and when Alan is in fact found dead in the morning it seems to be just one of many such crimes recently. Frances is determined to find his friend's killer, all the more so after Cesare tries to kidnap his fiancée. He follows him to an insane asylum but not all is as it seems...

Visual Style
The visual style of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is dark, twisted and bizarre; radical and deliberate distortions in perspective, form, dimension and scale create a chaotic appearance.

The Music. . .
Antwerp and his sonic companions will be providing an improvised, live soundtrack to accompany the screening on the night by representing the feverish oddities of nightmares.
