Elchin Shirinov is a jazz pianist, composer and arranger originally from Azerbaijan, recognised for his expressive playing and refined trio aesthetics. He was included in All About Jazz’s December 2022 poll of the top 200 favourite living pianists in the world.
From 2018 to October 2022, Elchin was a member of Avishai Cohen’s renowned trio, with whom he recorded three albums and toured extensively across major international venues and festivals. These include Blue Note New York, Blue Note Tokyo, PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho, Tokyo Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Jazz in Marciac, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Berlin Philharmonie, and Paris Jazz Festival.
Elchin began his career in Azerbaijan and was awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Azerbaijan in 2018. Alongside his collaborations, he has released his own albums, including Maiden Tower (2017) and Waiting (2018). As a bandleader and solo artist, he has performed across Europe in cities such as London, Paris, Berlin, Budapest, Krakow, Milan and Vienna.
His music is characterised by clarity, strong compositional voice, and a deep sensitivity within the trio format. As pianist Brad Mehldau noted, Elchin demonstrates a distinctive ability to orchestrate within the trio, creating a transparent and balanced sound with compelling improvisation and interplay.
