The Moonwalkers: Live in Concert
Narrated on film by Tom Hanks
Join the RPO for an evening delving into deep space in high definition.
Grammy® award-winning American composer Eric Whitacre’s symphonic work Deep Field was inspired by the world’s most famous space observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope, and its greatest discovery – the iconic Deep Field image.
After the interval, the RPO presents Anne Nikitin’s score to Lightroom’s critically acclaimed The Moonwalkers. Narrated and co-written by Tom Hanks, The Moonwalkers provides an insight into the impending return of crewed surface missions to the moon by going behind-the-scenes of the Artemis programme, including interviews between Hanks and Artemis astronauts. Shown on a big screen in the Royal Albert Hall, this will be the first chance to hear Anne Nikitin’s original soundtrack, performed live in concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Accompanying the evening’s music, our big screen will feature two specially created films. This concert offers audiences their first opportunity to experience The Moonwalkers outside its original Lightroom setting, in a specially curated edition featuring original NASA footage, Andy Saunders’ Apollo Remastered images, and a pre-recorded narration by Tom Hanks – transporting you to the lunar surface. Opening the evening, Eric Whitacre’s music is paired with Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of Our Universe, combining Hubble’s breathtaking imagery with bespoke animations.
The Moonwalkers is narrated on film by Tom Hanks, written by Tom Hanks and Christopher Riley with an original score by Anne Nikitin, and created by Lightroom. Directed and designed by 59, A Journey Studio. In association with ESK live.

Formed in 1987 The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra it has become so what a national institution. It has managed to build a stellar reputation, not just here in the U.K but across the globe. To date they have manage to light up some of the biggest and most renown venues, with a wonderful array of music. I do believe there is a common misconception when people hear the word orchestra, with many assuming regimented classical music. However, The Royal Philharmonic has gained much of its main stream popularity with their wonderful arrangements of modern pop songs and compositions made famous on the West End stage. The respect they command in music circles is quite incredible, with many superstar musicians often seen working in their projects. They have had numerous collaborations over the years include one with legendary artists Andrea Bocelli, Lesley Garett, Sting and Stevie Wonder.
As a live act they also untouchable, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is the creme de la creme! Made up of array of gifted musicians with so many other thousands of young budding musicians honing their craft, in the hope that one day they maybe able to join one of the most coveted Orchestras of the modern day.
They have had many different tours such as ‘Mancini Rocks the Pops’, ‘Pop Go the Beatles’ and ‘Andrew Lloyd Webber Classics’ as well as many others. Theres is not doubt they have something for everyone!
