Enjoy the Songs of Roma concert feat. a choir formed by workshop participants on September 20, starting at 4:00 PM. Entry is voluntary.

These musicians from Czechia & Slovakia set out to show that the contemporary Roma music of Central Europe carries a wholly unique harmony - every bit as exceptional as Portuguese fado or Spanish flamenco. The high point of their concert career to date was last year's appearance at Glastonbury Festival, where they played three shows. The atmosphere of their dynamic, deeply felt performances is utterly distinctive.

Oto Bunda comes from a Roma family of musicians who have devoted themselves to folklore for generations. He was a member of the Romathan Theatre in Košice and worked with the children's choir Čhavorenge, with whom he toured the world; he has also collaborated with the Czech Philharmonic and with Ida Kelarová. His focus lies not only in Romani popular music but, above all, in the traditional Romani genre known as halgató.

Astrid Hudečková is a singer and musician who has long composed her own ambient music. Of mixed Czech, Roma, and Sinti heritage, she came to Roma music after meeting Oto. Before that, she was a member of several alternative bands, most notably as composer, lyricist, and vocalist for the ambient project The Probe. Alongside her musical work, she is also active in graphic design, copywriting, and photography.

Songs of Roma biography

Songs of Roma is a world-music project led by Slovak musician Oto Bunda [SK] and Czech singer Astrid [CZ]. The project creates original songs in the Romani language deeply rooted in Central European Romani music traditions.

Their sound embraces influences from bossa nova, jazz, latin, soul, and pop while celebrating the richness of Romani culture. Songs of Roma shares the beauty of Roma heritage through live performances, workshops, and community engagement.

Oto Bunda [SK] is a Slovak-born singer, musician, dancer & educator rooted in a renowned traditional Roma musical family. His grandfather, Eugen Bunda, led the Slovak folk ensemble Železiar for decades. Oto studied acting in Košice & was a member of the Romathan theatre ensemble, where he developed his performance skills. He co-founded the children’s choir Čhavorenge, touring internationally & working with choirs and orchestras around the world. Oto teaches singing & rhythm, composes original music blending jazz, film music, world-music, and traditional Roma influences, and creates the Songs of Roma project to share unique Roma music & culture globally

Astrid [CZ] is a Czech singer, pianist, composer & multidisciplinary artist with roots in Czech, Roma & Sinti heritage. Astrid composes ambient music & brings her creative voice to Songs of Roma after meeting Oto in Prague in 2018. In addition to her musical work, she is also a graphic designer, photographer & copywriter, contributing her artistic vision to both the sound and visual identity of the project.

Songs of Roma had the honour of performing at the legendary Glastonbury Festival in 2025 on

the Atchin-Tan & Unfairground stage.
