Samson’s excursion into the musical world came when he started playing the guitar at seven years of age. Seven years later however, after watching the DMC Mix Championships on television, Samson developed a burning ambition to become a DJ himself. Initially influenced by the sounds of R&B and hip-hop, from 1999 the DJ later developed a passion for growing Dutch house music scene and started making a name for himself in the Amsterdam area. Sidney Samson subsequently became the resident DJ at the Matrixx Nightclub in Amsterdam and formed his own label Samsobeats alongside Gregor Salto in 2007. Shortly after the DJ released the singles “Bring That Beat Back” and “It’s All Funked Up” which became popular in his native Netherlands.
Samson’s breakthrough however came with the single “Riverside” in 2009. The single topped the Dutch Top 40, charted at No. 9 in the Australian ARIA Charts, and No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Selling 97,000 copies in its first week, the single exposed Samson to a huge, international audience in which to market his subsequent releases. Samson’s second single “Shut Up and Let It Go” featuring Lady Bee arrived in February 2010, followed by “Wake Up Call” featuring Steve Aoki.
On top of releasing his own material, Samson has become a recognised and respected collaborator working with the likes of Tara McDonald for the tracks “Set Me On Fire” and “Dynamite”, Kylie Minogue on her single “Get Outta My Way”, and David Guetta’s “Getting Over You”. The DJ subsequent worked with Kelly Rowland, Martin Solveig, and Dead Prezz, after which he embarked on a summer tour with LMFAO, and entered the studio with Far East Movement, Flo Rida, and will.i.am.

Sidney Samson is probably one of the most experienced DJs out there, as he started his career at the tender age of 13, playing his music at local events, school performances, and for friends. You know that a DJ is good when they have a residency at The Matrixx, and this is exactly what Samson has. His house music is relatable, modern, and with great hooks and grooves to guarantee that you will dance your socks off for his entire set!
Samson is an incredibly successful artist, and now owns his own record label, and with his history and back catalogue of work, it’s not surprising! When I saw him live, he was spinning the decks in a way that I didn’t even know was possible. From tune to tune, he transitioned flawlessly even on his live mixes. He boasted his collaborations with huge artists such a Kylie, and played the newer tracks that they had recorded together. It was awesome how much everyone was backing him and shouting out.
Samson, you can tell, loves to see his audience having a good time. He dances along as much as he can, trying to get everyone into it, and it really works! His passion is evident, and it is something that just doesn’t translate in a recording, and was incredible to witness live.
Ain’t the term Disc Jockey, a funny one? Sidney Samson is a Dutch DJ from Holland, who has been mastering his trade since the tender young age of thirteen. It has definitely paid off internationally, especially in the house music scene, which he has been a huge part of for the last fifteen years.
Samson has this place packed out tonight, with people spilling out of the doors front to back, and side to side in this lavish club in the city. It is no surprise when he gives his top ten hit, “Riverside” a spin over the in house system that sees this huge crowd all doing the same dance. “Wake Up Call” is the song that has people jumping up and down to the beat. The vibe is inviting, everyone uniting for this huge atmosphere.
“Better Than Yesterday” a track that Samson collaborated with Will.i.am is the sing along of this evening, with a thousand plus people singing it at the top of their lungs. Samson is humble with the reaction, perhaps enjoying this ‘pinch yourself’ moment.
