Not much is known about Exmag and their personnel's musical history, but what is known is their proclivity for funky, soulful and well-crafted electronic compositions. Formed by Brooklynites Eric Mendelson, Mike Iannatto, and Tyler Dondero otherwise known as SuperNicer, Exmag made a bunch of U.S. musical appearances including dates at Florida’s House of Blues and Richmond’s The National before releasing their official debut single “Creep Steady (Pt.1)" in November 2013. The single caused a small stir and was supported by a number of U.S. tour dates.
“Creep Steady (Pt.1) turned out to be the lead single of their full-length debut “Proportions” released on the 15 January 2014. The 18-track album features the popular songs, “True Love From The Future”, “Give It To Me Right” and “Tilt Mode (feat. Gibbz)”, the latter of which was also released as a single. The album was issued by the artist-led label Lowtemp which attempts to free music of its fetters by making music free, introduced the band’s eclectic funk-driven electric soul that combines the sounds of rock guitar solos, soulful melodies, and downtempo electronic drops. The band supported the album with an extensive touring schedule of over 60 dates across the U.S. that lasted into 2015.

Seeing exmag live is a treat not only for the ears, but for the soul. Their funky synths laden jazz chords and reverb are captivating to say the least. You close your eyes and are transported to a place where funk swirls around the room. Guitarist Eric Mendhelson is immensely talented and his soulful yet technical riffs echo in your mind for days after the show is over. This band is NOT TO BE MISSED.
