The lights went down, and the band began singing the lyrics to Can’t Take Away a cappella in the wings, before coming on stage. They got the entire audience on their side straight away by encouraging us to sing the phrase of music that they repeated time and time again. They ran on stage to incredible lighting, and had everyone singing along and cheering as they took up their positions behind their instruments. They’re all incredibly talented musicians in their own right, and were completely at home as soon as they began playing.
They played Someone Worth Dying for near the beginning of their set, and Mike Grayson, the front man, had everyone singing along in the audience, shouting out for us to put our arms in the air and join in. Each instrumentalist took a solo, and Kyle Schonewill’s guitar solo completely blew me away, the way that he was dancing around the stage demonstrated such talent.
They were all great performers, and took time chatting to the audience, and they even told us a few personal stories about the origin of their lyrics to the more ambiguous songs, which made everyone feel really humbled and grateful to be at the show.
