After standing outside O2 Shepherd's Bush (the venue) in the FREEZING cold for about three hours, I was thrilled to secure a barrier position right next to the stage.
The first support act, Annie Eve, was atmospheric and fantastic. She was really impressive with a variety of vocal and guitar techniques that set the stage perfectly for the night to come. I even managed to get a setlist!
The second act, Waylayers, were great too, and I developed a bit of a thing for the guitarist! They played poppy rock with some very catchy melodies.
After a tense gap, then came To Kill A King themselves! They opened with Grace At A Party which really got everyone moving. They played a mixture of songs from their latest, self-titled album and old favourites, with all members of the band really getting into it. My favourite moment was towards the end of the set when they played Choices. They invited a lovely singer onto the stage to sing with Ralph, and it was such a poignant moment I was personally moved to tears. All of the band looked so completely happy to be there at that moment and you couldn't help but smile along with them, such was there enthusiasm. The encore consisted of a solo rendition of Bloody Shirt before the finishing chant of Love Is Not Control echoed around. A truly superb night, I can't wait to see them again!
Really nice and fun chaps. A really nice vibe to the show eventhough loads of the lyrics are depressing. The guys are so genuinely sweet and good on stage. They make a lot of contact with the audience as well and care about the fans. They will also take the time to meet fans after the concert. The show was basic but really great. No huge lightshows, just music but that's all you need when the band's that good. You go there for the music, right?
My ‘first time’ seeing To Kill a King in Sheffield. A real delight for the ears! Definitely made a new fan out of me. Thank you to your mates Bastille for taking you along for the ride! Awesome and can’t wait to see you again soon I hope.x
