Lacuna Coil consists of band members; lead vocalists Andrea Ferro and Cristina Scabbia, Marco Coti Zelati on the bass guitar and keyboard, Marco "Maus" Biazzi on the guitar and Ryan Blake Folden on the drums.
Since Lacuna Coil formed in 1994, the group has had two name changes, they have formerly been known as "Sleep of Right" and "Ethereal".
Lacuna Coil are highly unique and have their own musical style. The band get their inspiration through the arty components of gothic imagery and music. Their style combines both female and male vocals with slow tempo's and heavy bass lines.
The band were signed by Century Media record in 1998 and went on to release a self-titled EP with them. Later, Lacuna Coil successfully recorded their debut full length album, named, "In a Reverie". However in 2002 the band made a breakthrough with a change of style. They found their feet and released breakthrough album, "Comalies". The album was highly successful and it impressively received high reviews. The success of the album lead to it being a significant player in Europe's metal scene. The band consequently started touring in America because of the success.
Lacuna Coil are still successful now, releasing, "Dark Adrenaline" in 2012 which impressively peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 2 million records.
I first found lacuna coil at Ozzfest in 2004. Lacuna Coil was just one of many great bands that day, but after they finished their short set I just had to see more.
I've seen Lacuna coil play big amphitheaters to small clubs and no matter the venue they come to play. Lacuna Coil brings energy to their shows and in turn the audience gives it back. I've had my nose busted up in a Lacuna Coil mosh pit. I have seen Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Cannibal Corps…etc and that’s never happened.
Most of the shows I have seen that Lacuna Coil has headlined Andrea and Cristina will go through some sort of wardrobe change during the show. Andrea and Cristina will wear some sort of jacket and shed as the show goes on. Depending on the show Lacuna Coil my slow the music down. Andrea and Cristina will sometime sing with just the aid of a guitar, or the band might just use mellow cords and percussion to accompany the vocals.
Lacuna Coil music has changed from album to album. Lacuna Coil first four albums had a Goth sound when Waldemar Sorytchta was the Producer. Lacuna Coil’s sound changed to more of a rock sound when Don Gilmor was the producer on there albums Shallow Life and Dark Adrenalin. Lacuna Coil got Jay Baumgardner to produce their most recent album Broken Crown Halo.
Broken Crown Halo is the heaviest album the Band has put so far. The duel vocals of Andrea and Cristina are not typical beauty and the beast vocals of most metal bands with male and female singers. Andrea and Cristina vocals’ work harmony together for a really cool sound.
