Although written for operas, films, suites and serenades, many of the works in this programme have long since taken on a life of their own.
Purcell’s Dido’s Lament, Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe, Barber’s Adagio and Bach’s Air are now familiar to audiences far beyond their original settings, while Mozart, Vivaldi, Handel and Elgar
are represented by some of their most enduring music.

Bringing together pieces from three centuries, this programme celebrates the remarkable ability of great music to remain fresh, immediate and deeply affecting.
