Powerful, intense, and contemplative by turns, J.S. Bach’s St John Passion tells the story of Christ’s suffering and crucifixion. Bach’s monumental oratorio is directed by the “deeply perceptive” (Gramophone) keyboard artist Kristian Bezuidenhout. Operatic in scope, the work captures poignant reflections on faith and sacrifice, performed by an international cast of soloists with the orchestra and choir. James Gilchrist reprises his role as Evangelist, joined by soprano Joanne Lunn, countertenor Nicholas Burns, and baritone Peter Harvey.
