Biografia
Consisting of James Mead (guitar), Nathan “Stu” Stewart (bass), Kyle Mitchell (drums), Ryan Shrout (guitar) and Jon Micah Sumrall (vocals), Kutless formed whilst the members were at college, finding inspiration from christian rock act, the Supertones, as well as the likes of Staind, Creed and Incubus. Having met at Athey Creek church, their shared love of music prompted them to begin making their own. The chemistry between the members was clear from the start and they quickly began writing their own music, whilst hosting basement parties at their shared house.
Signing to BEC Recordings, they released their debut album in 2002, with the self-titled release finding significant chart success. Their follow-up, “Sea of Faces,” in 2004, broke new records for the band, peaking at number 97 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, selling 250,000 copies. The band continued to make music prolifically, maintaining their chart success with 2005’s “Strong Tower,” “Hearts of the Innocent” in 2006 and 2008’s “To Know That You’re Alive” all breaking into the top 100 of Billboard’s Album Chart.
With 2012’s “Believer,” Kutless topped the ITunes Christian Albums Chart and Billboard Christian Albums chart, whilst also peaking at number 36 on Billboard’s mainstream Top 200 Album Chart. Gutless have toured extensively throughout their career and in 2014, they co-headlined with Audio Adrenaline on a nationwide tour. 2014’s “Glory” continued Kutless’ chart success, proving the band’s longevity as one of the most successful christian rock bands.

If you want to really have a great time at a rock concert and you're a Christian, then you can't go wrong with Kutless. They sound great and put on a fantastic performance that really gets everybody worked up. They're a really solid group that sounds true to their recordings when you see them live.
Being a Christian rock band (actually more of an alternative rock/grunge band), they always have very positive and uplifting lyrics that will really help solidify your faith without being preachy. They always have moments in-between some of the songs where they try to reach out to those in the audience that may not be fully committed in their faith, and maybe came along with a Christian friend. They're a great way to introduce someone to the Christian faith using their music, showing that being a Christian isn't how the media and Hollywood often try to portray. They're a down to earth group of guys that play some great and uplifting Christian rock music. The audience is usually made up of mostly teenagers and young adults, but it's suitable for the whole family. I think anyone could have a good time at one of their concerts.
Many often say that it is easier to achieve success in the genres of Christian rock and pop as there is lesser competition and a readymade fanbase. However this is not true for Portland outfit Kutless who have ascended the stages and worked for their success in the same way another other rock band has.
Now in a confident position with their career after selling three million records worldwide, they handle the vast crowds with ease. Despite a large change in lineup over the years, lead vocalist Jon Micah Sumrall remains in tact along with guitarist James Mead and these two have great rapport onstage. Jon also has a natural manner when addressing crowds talking about past bandmates, song meanings, writing techniques, his faith, music and pretty much anything else between playing. They cheer throughout and join in enthusiastically for a singalong to 'Strong Tower' which creates a real moment within the venue. The group of musicians throw themselves into the performance and create the highlight of the show so far.
