Washington DC native Alex Hamburger is an outstanding flautist and vocalist bringing a fresh, contemporary voice to modern jazz. She blends jazz tradition with ambient textures, electric fusion and poetic songwriting inspired by her literary heroes like Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou.

Alex Hamburger's latest album, What If? (Unit Records) fuses electric and acoustic sounds with an immersive narrative that continues to receive glowing testimonials from the likes of All About Jazz, Jazz thing and Vents Magazine.

Inspired by jazz greats like Wayne Shorter, Geri Allen, Mary Lou Williams, Charles Lloyd, and Chick Corea, Alex's sound blends lyrical, harmonic, and rhythmic sensibilities with her own flute-led, genre-crossing approach.

The band shifts from atmospheric and abstract to lyrical and straight-ahead, creating a set that rewards close listening. This is a quartet for anyone who appreciates adventurous modern jazz with strong melodies, thoughtful writing and tight ensemble playing.
